hi, anybody with a ATI HD4xxx card in XP?
i was wondering what your memory usage for pvrx2 when watching a hd video was like...
i'm getting huge jumps to over 500 megs...which disappears when it's stopped..
my other cards get nowhere near this amount in same system with same drivers..
only happens when using a dxva codec..[ati mpeg2, cyberlink,etc]

i'm just trying to figure out if its a by-product of the current architecture,[namely 4xxx drivers]
thanx...

and if it stays below 300megs for pvrx2.exe, what drivers you're using...

mine shows pvrx2 @264 meg on live BBC HD (dvbt)
Using ATI mux, and ATI mpeg decoder.
Using last months (the most recent) catalyst AND Avivo release.

I'm on Win7 but playing a 1080i recording with my 4670 (9.10 beta) results in the following:

With onscreen display: 167 MB
Without onscreen display: 143 MB

hmmm, i'm getting same memory usage on 2 diff systems...
win7/vista use diff drivers...Sad

notice the new "enforce video smoothness' box in latest cat 9.9? Smile

it's a fresh install, and looks great...but that's got to be wasted memory...
my 3450 shows only ~150 meg and looks fantastic...
i put it in another machine that has win7 and xp on it so i'll play with it some more there...
but that machine also shows the same high mem usage in dxva hd..

ffdshow uses normal memory unless i force dxva help with nv12 colorspace output..
then it acts same...

Nope...but I just checked and it's enabled.

I have to say I recently switched back to ATI-mux from TS-mux and I think it looks a bit better......or just grass is greener.

What plugins do you have running? I did not have any plugins running in the backround.

not running any plugins to speak of....
oh, there's my imon vfd plugin...but that shouldn't affect it...and i tried with plugins disabled..
[other machine has no plugins, fresh win, fresh gbpvr in client mode]

i did try playing with other apps and it did show high mem in dxva checker...
[which is why i thought drivers]
hmmm, willl have to try mpchc and check memory...

Elmo, using hardware deinterlacing seems to kick off the high memory...what does yours look like with coreavc? what do you play hd mpeg2 with?

confirmed, dxvachecker only show memory jump when enabling dxva acceleration...Sad
bug in ati avivo?
i'm seeing low memory in mpchc tho...like 40 megs total...
same in dxva checker without dxva...lol
turn on dxva and boom...500 megs again... same codec, same player...
GRRRRR......

just checked EVR and it doesn't show this behavior...
tried sp3 and it didn't help...

i tried sp3, .net3 with evr, everything...evr doesn't accellerate decoding so won't be effected...

thought i had a fix but it was a 720p file...
seems that only 1080i mpeg2 files show this huge memory jump...tho memory is higher with 720p files as well, about proportionally..
[380meg for 720p, 500+ for 1080i]

it looks nice and *is* accelerating...but that's rediculous!

h264 works just fine and with low mem using any decoder...!?!

meanwhile my 3450 is rock solid using less than 200 ever on anything...
[just a tiny bit underpowered on h264 1080p, why i'm upgrading]

is it just me or are others seeing this also?
or am i the only one still on XP? LOL
