I have a server setup with GBPvr with two clients, one is an HTPC and the other is a PCH. On the HTPC I have noticed several problems:

1) When viewing a recording and stopping in the middle, the current location in the file is not saved, and therefore, resume does not work.

2) Deleting a recording from the HTPC client seldom works. Generally, pvrx2.exe will hang and it needs to be killed and restarted. After the restart, trying to delete the recording "sometimes" appears to work, and the recording is removed from the database. However if I look on the server, the file most likely is still there. I don't believe it is a permissions problem because every once in awhile the file will actually get deleted.

3) The additional files (*.txt, *.edl) are not deleted even in the few cases where the recording itself was deleted.

These three issues all work correctly from the PCH. I can delete recordings and also resume recordings. Also, it I stop the playback of the recording from the PCH, resume then works from the HTPC.

It sounds a bit like permissions to me.
PCH is just a "terminal" to PVRX2 running on the server whereas a client is talking direct to the files and database on the server. Maybe the PC client doesn't have write perms for teh database??

I can manually delete the files on the server from the client by connecting to the share, and I have no problems scheduling etc. from the client - that is why I do not believe it is a permissions problem. Also the fact that maybe once out of 20-30 attempts it actually works. If it were permissions, it would never work.

Do you have these extensions listed in config.xml under the tag: <DeleteAdditionalExtensions>?

Yes, they are listed. I'm confused, because I thought this was a common problem amongst people who use a client/server setup. Is this not the case? Are there any users out there who have no problems deleting recordings from a client PC?

I have no problems deleting files from any of my clients. I have one desktop and one laptop client, Server is XP both clients are Vista

I did have a problem originally when setting it up and it was a permissions problem with the folder that contained the GBPVR database and i belived this is the devnz/gbpvr folder.

Once those folders were set correctly i was able to get it to work properly

While this is no help to you for actually solving the problem, I have observed the same problems on both of my PC clients. I use neither very often, and haven't cared enough to spend any time solving the issue; I simply don't delete shows from the clients any more. I say 'any more' because it did work in the past; my prior setup was 1.3.11 on Windows XP; when 1.4.7 came out I re-formatted the HTPC server with Windows 7.

I don't have a PCH, but similar to your final comment if I watch a show partially on the HTPC server, I can then resume from a client.

It does sound like a permissions issue of course, but in the limited troubleshooting I did before deciding I didn't care, I couldn't find any indication of a problem in that area - everthing works as it should except from within PVRX2.

I wonder if it might be a database locked issue? Maybe it tries to access the database, and if that fails, it doesn't proceed to delete the file. It might show up in the logs.

to add to my previous post quoted above, i am using 1.3.11. on the resume issue, i know that does not work with client mode on 1.3.11 and below (under the recordings screen, it works fin on the video menu). I asked Sub to fix this and he may have in 1.4.7, but in my limited testing did not end up liking 1.4.7 and am staying with 1.3.11 so cant comment on that version

For me it does delete the show from the database just fine, it just doesn't remove the file itself. Sometimes it does remove the recording file, but always misses all the comskip related files. So no, it doesn't seem like a database issue.
