I am going to try and make this card (VisionTek TV Wonder HD 650 PCIE) work including ClearQAM! Wish me luck. I am new to GB-PVR and this card. I will keep posting the progress (or failures Wink ) Here are some threads that I am going to use for help. Any pointers from those who have made this work already will be greatly appreciated. (I can go to windows 7 x64 if that is a better proven platform for this card ..)

How to setup ATI 650 PCI for QAM

ATI Pro 650 working with QAM

ATSC (QAM) - Cannot detect channels

Will GB-Pvr work with Ati Wonder HD 650 Pci (Ntsc/Atsc)

ATI 650 pci prob in Vista

Progress so far:
1. Created a restore point in vista if things go bad

2. Installed TV pack 2008 based on directions from here.

3. Installed Wonder HD 650 PCIE. (On my box the PCIE x1 is right next to PCIE x16. So now the vid card almost touches the tuner card Sad. Its going to get hot. Used latest vista 64 drivers from ati.
filename: 9-10_vista32-64_unified_wdm.exe
ATI Theater Video Driver 26.5 MB 9.10 10/22/2009

VMC found the card, tuned all the channels that my TV can tune (including ClearQAM), watched Angles beat Yankees, woohoo! The card is working.

Now on to GB-PVR over the weekend.

So I tried to install 64 bit xp drivers. (I am not sure that I installed the drivers successfully.) I couldnt see the 650 HD card in the device manager to uninstall and reinstall the drivers

Configuration shows three cards
650Pro (Qam)
650Pro (ATSC)
650Pro (DVB)

For each one I tried to scan the channels thru all the default frequencies and it didn't find anything.

now what ??

All bets are off when it comes to ClearQAM on anything other than a Hauppauge or HDHomeRun device, but try doing a scan then post the config.exe.log and config.exe-native.log and I'll see if anything stands out.

Thanks sub! I didnt find GBPVR before I bought the card! Bought the card because it was cheap and then started looking for apps. Attaching the zipped log files. (Used 650 Pro (ATSC) scanned 68 channels, found nothing)

I tried 8.11, 9.3 and 9.10 xp drivers from ATI. None could install the ATI Unified AVstream driver. So don't really know if xp drivers would work. (How can I install the driver?)

Unfortunately there was no problems shown the logs. Everything went fine, but the device never managed to lock onto a signal.

I seem to remember some others commenting in the past about ATI devices working with QAM for them in XP, but not Vista/Win7. I'm not familiar with this device though, so know next to nothing about it.

I wouldn't expect it to find any QAM channels if you used the ATSC setting. You should use "ATI 650 Pro (QAM)". Try changing the device to that and rescanning. Zip and post the logs if it doesn't find anything. You can also check http://www.silicondust.com/hdhomerun/channels_us to see what channels you should be getting. Check to make sure you should not be using HRC frequencies.

I did try all three modes listed Qam, ATSC, DVB. Posting the results (log files) obtained when using QAM source now.

That looks better, it's just not logging onto a signal. Try the following:

  1. Extract the attached file to your GBPVR\BDA\ATSC folder replacing the existing qam-custom.ini (if there is one).
  2. Edit the capture source.
  3. Edit the Recording Source Settings.
  4. In the Cable Frequencies dropdown, select "Default cable frequencies (custom range)"
  5. Important: Do not edit the range or it will overwrite the file. Just select that option in the dropdown and click "OK" to close that popup.
  6. Run a new scan.

If no channels are still found, PM me or post your zip code.

If it works, the bda.ini entry will need to be modified for this device.
