I found that playing with MPC HC, the CPU usage is 15%.....
http://mpc-hc.sourceforge.net/

using GBPVR to play, the CPU usage is 100%.....

why is there such a performance difference?

What kind of file are you playing?

I would guess it's codec and/or hardware acceleration related.

also to touch on this, what decoders are you using in GBPVR. It sounds like it is using different ones that the MPC decoders. Also sounds like there is no DXVA as McBainUK stated.

Take a lookin config and see what decoders it is using and change them to the ones you want/give best performace

This is not controlled by GB-PVR, so there is no setting in GB-PVR.

Whether DXVA is used is decided by the combination of video renderer + operating system + video decoder + videocard drivers. For example, on vista/win7 + EVR render + MPEG2 + videocard whose drivers capable of MPEG2 hardware acceleration, you'll get DXVA.

Surely I'm not the first person to ask questions about DXVA with GBPVR? Is there a guide on it?

It just puzzles me that using MPC HC on the same file and it "auto" DXVA....

You won't be the last person to ask about DXVA, with Windows in general.

You can use the MPC decoders and will get DXVA, depening on what file you are playing.

For non-mpeg & TS, GBPVR just calls directshow to play the file, so the system default for the particular codec will get used. Set the MPC HC decoders to be the default, and it'll use them for playback (but MPEG / H264 will still use the codec from the playback tab)

What type of file was it? (codec & container)
What OS are you using?

I use EVR on XP, and don't get acceleration - but a better picture, but if I use VMR9 Custom, I'd get DXVA.
In Vista EVR gives acceleration.

I am play a MKV file; how do I check the codec inside it? I am using Windows XP Pro.

Okay, I will try to set all of them as VMR9 and see what happens.
