CDK Scheduler (External Recordings Manager)

The External Recording Manager has been renamed for now to the CDK Scheduler (name may change again).

New features:

1. Ability to schedule key word searches. Can search on either Title, Sub Title, Description.

2. Can specify a CaptureSource other than 1 now. Currently still only really designed for a single tuner system.

3. Can specify whether Duplicates are Recorded or Not.

4. Integration points for Plugin Managers. Currently XRecord v16 supports managing the PriorityRecordings.xml file used by the CDK Scheduler.

5. If you have currently speciefed your XSD to be found through the web admin, you'll need to place the XSD in the zip in your GBPVR root directory and update your PriorityRecordings.xml file so that it points to the new location.

Yes, XRecord V16 provides a front end for reoccuring searches and will maintain your PriorityRecordings.xml file.

I've been looking forward to this being integrated now for a while. Great work. One quick question. How are the duplicates handled? Does it check againt the GBPVR database or a separate file maintainted by CDK scheduler, or something else I don't know about?

This is the last BIG feature I've been hoping for. Thanks.

It checks a seperate database. There is a new utility that gets added to your PostProcessing.bat file, that adds the recorded show to a rectracker.mdb file. As you record shows they get added to the database. When you specify whether to record duplicates it checks against the rectracker.mdb to see if it should record the program or not. It uses a combination of Show, Sub Title, and Description. If you have Zap2It it tries to use the Uniqueid to determine if it is a duplicate.

A new version of XRecord is in testing right now, that will make managing the priority recordings much simpler. Jeff has also talked about adding support in the Video Archive plugin as well.

Error: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Situation: Starting GB-PVR, clicking Xrecord, clicking Scheduler. Gets alist with an entry of "Days of our lifes" feels happy with that but clicks "Add entry". A pop-up window showing fields like "Detection Mode:, Search Criteria" etc appears. Clicks anywhere in the window and the error occur.

UPDATE
Now, when I write this text the "Add Entry" step isn't necessary, instead the pop-up window comes as soon as I click "Scheduler" (The days-of-our-lifes screen is behind).

Also, at one time everything just hanged when I clicked Scheduler. I restarted GB-PVR and it has been OK since.


And then a requst:
I don't fancy the DB way very much. I have all respect that it's easier on your side to work with a database though, but how can I get an XML file with the recorded data occur in the same folder as my recording. Can I 'jack' in on any of the batch files, or is it easier to just poll the DB for the information now and then?

I have moved all the database access code for the video archive plug-in it a sperate DLL and am now working to expand the database to incldue the extra field used by the CDK scheduler (unique ID) as well as the extra fields used by MyVideos. My thought is that we should be able to have a single database used by all the plug-ins so that we don't have 3 similiar yet slightly different databases running around. I am close to having the work done (other than reading and writing images, which I was going to ask Reven for help with). The other plug-in writers will have to agree to port their code to the common database access layer and/or change their code to do direct access to thec common database, but hopefully by doing this we will have more consitency and less disk used. It should also make it easier for other plug-in writters to write video plug-ins.

Many of your problems are being addressed in the next release of XRecord. Jrock, and I have been working with Jorm on the simplifying the interface for XRecord and the CDK Scheduler. I believe the issues you are having are being addressed in the next release of XRecord.

As for getting a database dump in XML format. Your best bet is to write a program that you add to the PostProcessing.bat file, that runs after a Recording has finished. You can then query one of the databases and dump the data into an XML file format of your choosing.

You might be able to use XML-DBMS to extract the data into an XML file, and then write an XSLT to just get the information you want.

If you have access to XML Spy you can also use it to get the data into an XML format so that you can manipulate it from there.

Jeff, good idea about the common database format. I think it would benefit everybody if this was done. One thing I would suggest is to make sure it can be used regardless of Database. I know I prefer using MSDE to Access MDB files. Response is much quicker.
