Is this possible, so I can use an Ubuntu box and run mvpmc and do an emulation of the GBPVR similar to what an MVP does well. With an Ubuntu box, I can have an "MVP" and a full PC as a client.

I don't want to shell out for a license of Win just for this purpose.

Thanks.
Win XP Pro SP 2
ASUS P5k-PRO Dual Core 3.0 GHZ with 4GB RAM
1 Seagate 150 GB SATA HD
1 Seagate 1TB SATA HD
1 Seagate 750 GB SATA HD
1 Hauppauge PVR500MCE
2 MVP (2 Wired / 1 Wireless via 2 Linksys WRT54G routers)
1 dead MVP (searching for replacement)

Yes it's possible, emulation mode already compiles on linux and it is a matter of someone being interested enough to take it on. However there lots of caveats I'd expect mplayer would be the preferred player and integrating GBPVR will be a bit of work. Also using linux doesn't mean that you get better performance. The mplayer with VDPAU support for the ION (where hardware acceleration is a must) is still work-in-progress.

I'd just use XBMC for linux and EWA when you need it for GBPVR functionality that's your tradeoff for $120. I looked at scripting XBMC and it is extremely doable, I'm surprised no one has done it. I was going to, but I decided to spending a few months with MythTV 0.22 and the NMT now.

Thanks, I guess will just wait until somebody can tackle the technicals.

Will probably play around with XBMC or Myth as alternative. Which do you think is better and do they expand to MVPs/Popcorn?

You can't compare XBMC is an advanced media player without any PVR, but people are working on interfaces but it has heavy processor requirement, too heavy for embedded devices, but it can run on the original xbox (no HD) MythTV is a popular PVR for linux, but it has Windows and MVP front ends. My interest in MythTV is as a hobbyist working on a NMT not as a user so my opinion isn't worth much.

Glad to know this because I have both GBPVR and MythTV .22 running.
As the time being MVP when connected to GBPVR has skip problems playing MPEGs an watching LiveTV, while it boots properly with myth .22 but when I try to run something (LiveTV, schedule recording, etc.) it reboots and mythbackend stops working.
I am now preparing a new GBPVR system with MVP as remote frontend.
Motherboard is an Intel D945GCLF2 with 2GB RAM and an Hauppauge Nova-T-500. I decided to use as OS Windows FLP which it proved to work pretty well. Of course mvpmc will be installed on all systems.

I am actually playing a bit with ML3 for GBPVR now and my foray into Myth has taken a sideline because mvpmc doesn't work well with .22, If they fix that I will work on it for the NMT but I am not doing anything specific to mvpmc or the MVP anymore.

Thanks Martin you did a good job indeed. I'm not aware of shuch connection problems because of my decision to apply a different myth configuration MBE + 2 SBE's. Iesterday I completed the configuration of MBE + 1 SBE and it seems working perfectly even if it took me a lot of time to trim the two systems (I started in July). Regarding GBPVR since the black screen in LiveTV I decided to wait for 1.5 to upgrade from the working 1.3.07.
