So far I've made about a dozen attempts to record, but only one has succeeded - and I can't tell what's different.

The first problem was with the machine not waking up reliably - this I fixed by removing Scheduled.exe, which was installed with the Kworld tuner software (seemed to be overriding gbpvr's wakeful requests)

Now I schedule a recording, the machine wakes up appears to do the recording; after the allotted time I go to the recordings section and my new recodng is usually "ready" (but sometimes "failed"), but clicking on the recording produces a couple of seconds of blank screen followed by the recordings menu again.

If I dig into the place where the files are being stored (in this case I've set d:\gbpvr and d:\gbpvr\live) I see the recording of the correct name and time, with a .TS file of zero length.

there is nothing obvious in the logs. For example, this morning it should have recorded Thomas the Tank between 08:30 and 09:30 (nice short program for testing), but the recording service log showed

there was nothing in pvrx2.exe's or native's logs between 8:27 and 8:47 when I went back to look to see whether it had recorded or not.

Live TV is pausable and replays after pause, and there are traces of non-zero length .TS files around e.g.
gbepg-TC46,674166,0,0,8.ts size 16.3 MBytes

which suggests that the setup can record.

I noted at another time it should have been recording, there was zero cpu load with brief spikes to about 10% every 20 seconds or so.

I don't know whether it's significant, but there appear to be three entries in the pending log for each program, e.g.

Are there any other log files in other directories ?
Any ideas on what else to check ?

Thanks

Does it record from this channel when you do a manual recording or schedule one for a few mins time when you're sure the machine hasn't gone into standby? I had problems recording from Cbeebies which was related to my scan.cache entry being wrong for this channel, but since it was sharing with BBC4 and FIVE isn't part time, I assume your tuning entry is correct so this might not be relevant...

the log entries you posted are from the recording-service log... what about the recordingservice-native log? That will have more details about what went on when the tuning request was submitted, the recording graph was built, etc. Better yet, just post both logs as a zip attachment.

So I did try BigMoose's suggestion and I was able to make a recording when not allowing the machine to shut down / hibernate.

I shut everything down (inc recording service), cleared logs and powered off for a clean start

After the clean start, pvrx2.exe hung (not consuming much cpu). Logs attached. Key message seems to be

Error code : 88760868
D3DERR_DEVICELOST
Device lost

whatever that means

I repeated the procedure and the next time it started ok, so I just went in and asked it for a 3 minute manual recording. I then sent the system to hibernate via pvrx2's system command.

The system woke up a couple of minutes before the appointed time and looked like it might be doing something - blipping the disk every couple of seconds quite steadily. But at the end - no recording as usual.

Logs also attached
