My HD recordings are black snowy picture with noise, but no sound

I finally got my system set up to record HD on comcast cable, basic package, no stb. All of my HD recordings play back as a snowy black screen with noise, not audio. I can watch HD live and pause and play live HD tv, but my recordings are hosed. I don't know if the recording is bad or the playback, but it's not right. I've searched around here, but haven't found anything that helped.

Capture source is BDA recording plugin, recording source is digital recording plugin. I have tried various combinations of video renderer and decoder settings. All decoders I have are what came with the software.


My machine is XP with a radeon X1950 Pro with 512MB and the Hauppauge 1600 card. I'm using the last version of gbpvr.

No decoders came with the software.

Try the ATI AVIVO download, then you'll have the pretty good ATI Mpeg Decoder (http://www.amdsurveys.com/se.ashx?s=5A1E27D24A95B47F) . You can also try Hoborg's SAF (Stand Alone Filters) package - see the sticky thread at the top of the wishlist forum.

I have installed SAF, it told me I need mpgmux.ax. I can't find it anywhere. Same results as before installing SAF.

OK, I installed mpgmux.ax and I still have the same result.

You really need to post your logs, I have no idea what your system is doing without them. They're in the GBPVR/Logs directory.

Do you need all of them or particular ones?

If I hit record while a show is already running I can watch the recorded show, but if I schedule it to record I get the black screen. Also, even when it is recording a scheduled HD show it will still let me watch another HD channel live. Shouldn't I get a warning that the tuner is in use?

hmmmm, this looks possibly like a bug I ran into before... try setting your mpeg-2 video decoder to "System Default" and see what happens. Post logs.
