Hey folks,

A belated Happy Holidays and new year to one and all Smile.

So after the old gbpvr website was lost to the internets, I thought it was a good excuse to finally try and work out how website are put together and see if I could put something together. Well after a couple of days dealing with frustrating code, my nemesis Rolleyes, I gave up and posted the design on the forums. whurlston stepped up and put the page together and all was well.

Except I was disappointed I hadn't stuck at it and made more progress. This holiday I decided that I'd have another go at working it out. So without further a do, ladies and jelly spoons, I give you my suggestion for a new gbpvr webpage:

http://gbpvrwebpage.110mb.com/

(it's temporary free hosting, so it's a little slow)

Now given that this is my very first go at this, I have no doubt it needs tweaking for compatibility. So I'm looking for some help from any experienced heads out there. It displays fine for me in IE8 and the latest firefox (edit: it's also just checked out okay in safari on a mac), but it does use javascript (jQuery Tools).

So try it out and kick the tires and let me know what you think. I'd also appreciate any help with the content, because I'm no Shakespeare.

I've got no creativity nor patience to work with web pages so hats off to you for doing so. I think it looks very nice. Is this done in Joomla? I've always like the picture ability with Simple Image Gallery. Seems to flow much better.

Nope, I was very imaginative and went with adobe Smile

It's designed in photoshop and put together in dreamweaver. The javascript and css is based on the free examples on the jquery tools site and for the lightbox effect with the screen shots, I've used the free slimbox2 script and css (because that guy has coded a script, for free, better than I could ever hope to do)

It's not displaying properly for me in IE8. I'm downloading it to see why now. I can't comment yet on how it looks cause it's a bit sparse. Big Grin

I do like the overall layout though.

One thing i did notice: in the body tag you have 'images/forums_roll.png' and the actual image is 'images/forums_button_roll.png' but that's minor.

It has to be something to do with the way 110mb is injecting their code. It looks fine in ie8 coming from another server: http://www.oshinetworks.com/gbpvr/

Yep I hear yah. It's hard for me to know what's "too" new as far a compatibility goes, it's all new to me Smile. But it does appear that IE6 is a real dog Big Grin. I would have thought it's the java script not playing nice. But that's why I stuck it up here first, so we can all check it out and if needs be I can roll it back

Good catch, that was driving me nuts. It wouldn't preload the bloody rollover image.

Here's is a link with a copy of the root folder [496 KB] if it's any help:

for anyone who wants to take a look.

I uploaded it to two of my servers and it works fine for me now in IE8 without modification:
http://www.epgtools.com/GB-PVR/website/
http://www.oshinetworks.com/gbpvr/beta/

So it had to be something with 110mb. I don't have IE6 to test.

I get the same as whurlston using IE7 - as the page is opening, I can see the images appearing one by one then the main white/blue box overlays them.

edit: it does the same on whurlston's servers.
