Greetings!

I've attempted to do a short (one minute) manual test recording with the BDA Multiplexer selected to "Microsof DVR-MS" and have failed to get a successful result. After the recording is done, TWO files are created with the DVR-MS extension and are only 6 KB in size. Neither file will play in XP Windows Media Player 11. I have had success in creating TS test files that play back in the Windows 7 Media Player, but they will not play in the XP version. So I need help with 1 or 2:

1) Create recordings in the DVR-MS format or
2) Get the TS files to play in Windows Media Player 11 for XP.

I also have not been able to get the "Auto-Convert TS recordings to MPEG-2" to work, but I'll address that issue in another thread if necessary.

My goal is to have gbpvr installed on an XP server to record TV for playback on a XP Windows Media Player.

Notes:
gbpvr version 1.4.7
Windows XP Pro, service pack 3
HDHomeRun versiion 20100213

Thanks for your valuable time and for supporting a wonderful product!

1) I've seen lots of problems with the HDHomeRun and attempting to record to DVR-MS. You are better off sticking with TS Mux.
2) You will need an MPEG2 video and AC-3 audio decoder. Windows XP does not have them by default. Try downloading the MPV decoders:

Attached are the logs for an attempt on 3/8/2010 at 7:14 AM. Since you mentioned a potential firewall issue, I did this test with the software firewall disabled. I was still not able to record a DVR-MS file.

Thanks for your help!

I downloaded the suggested options and installed them on the XP PC I want to play the TS files. Still can't play TS files. Here is what was installed:
FFDShow Codec Pack
mpeg2decfilter_20060310.ax (release unicode), installed via run command "regsvr32 Mpeg2DecFilter.ax". RegSvr32 response after run was "DllRegisterServer in Mpeg2DecFilter.ax succeeded."

Thanks for your help!

The only thing that I can see in the log is ...

Quote:2010-03-08 07:14:00.687 VERBOSE locked=1 present=1 strength=78 quality=85

Is there anything that you can do to improve the quality of the signal going into the tuner ... check connectors, remove splitters ... optimal quality is 100.

If you can record .ts files, but not .dvr-ms files, this can mean you've the broadcaster has changed the audio/video PIDs for the channel since you last scanned. The TS Mux doesnt need these, and always manages to record the correct streams. The DVR-MS does need this info, and if its wrong, it wornt record anything (other than the 6kb DVR-MS header).

How do I fix this? I rescanned the channels in HDHomeRun Setup and then rescanned the channnels in the Digial Channel Mapping window. Still cannot record a DVR-MS file.

Attached are the log files if you need them.

Thanks for your help!

The easiest way is to delete and recreate your capture source.
