I've got a cable STB Scientific Atlanta 4250HD and I am trouble getting it to work perfectly with my HD-PVR for component capturing. The main problem so far is the HD-PVR drivers don't quickly respond to resolution changes so I've I'd to choose a fixed output (I chose 720p over 1080i). Working with Pass-Through was better except changing between HD/SD caused corruption.

The main trouble with fixed mode is the STB adds pillar box to SD content so it is difficult to scale. I've fixed this on the PCH, but can can anyone offer a solution on how to do this cropping with GBPVR. Cropping standard 4x3 with letterbox content is not a problem but VMR remove letterbox for this content gives the output shown below. Any suggestions?

do you have a 'center cut' aspect ratio? that's what i use for 16:9 video being broadcast as 4:3 w/letterbox, showing on a 16:9 tv...
<AspectRatioMode name="Center Cut" ratio="-0.12,-0.125,1.12,1.125" />
zooms in all 4 directions..
otherwise <AspectRatioMode name="Remove LetterBox" ratio="0,-0.125,1,1.125" />
usually works when only zooming out is needed keepnig aspect..
of course needs vmr9 to zoom past edges...

btw, my PCH died...Sad so take me off the beta list...[accidentally shorted board putting in new hard drive]
might be a while before i get another one...[most likely a a/b110 model]
it was so sweet to have a quality client in the house, but i had to build a standalone pvr to replace it as pc-client mode is still less reliable than a pch...

thanx for all your hard work over the years..
guess i'll have to break out the old mvp from the closet...Smile

Just so you know, the concensus in the early HD-PVR days seemed to be that things behaved better if you set the STB to output a constant resolution, ie always 720p. It wasnt ideal, but it really helped with stability.

This was more important in the early days when the old HD-PVR drivers use to reset the TS timeline if the resolution changed. Even now, changes of resolution etc can be messy.

Thanks pBS that's what I'm looking for (I think I need 31% based on how I zoom on the PCH) Sorry to hear about your NMT. New EGreat's are about $140 shipped from ebay as an option.

@sub Thanks constant 720p is definitely solid and zooming on the NMT meets my needs. On the PC having to use VMR is unfortunate so maybe GB-PVR could connect twice the first graph to change channels/resolution and after a couple of seconds start a second graph to start recording and display.
