How easy is it to change font size (for TV guide program description and other areas)? On my 28inch SD TV the TV guide description is unreadable. Is there something built in or would it require skin changes?

You can change some of the fonts by editing Guide.xml (C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\NPVR\Skin\Default\TV Guide\Guide.xml)

640x576 SD display is awful but I think it might be an aspect problem as match as font as I found using 640x480 actually looks better. You could also try Jaggy's BlueRetro skin since he did a lot more work to design it for SD readability.

Is this in Windows display properties or NPVR config?

In the guide.xml the description is handled here:

Code:
    <Element name="SelectedShowDetails" location="5,68" size="90,22" alpha="255">
        <RoundedRect location="0,-5" size="100,105" fillColor="Vertical:#DE05080a-#DE1f313d" borderColor="Black" radius="2" borderWidth="0.1"/>
        <Rect location="0,0" size="50,0.5" fillColor="Horizontal:Transparent-#ff9500" borderColor="Transparent" borderWidth="0"/>
        <Rect location="49.95,0" size="50.05,0.5" fillColor="Horizontal:#ff9500-Transparent" borderColor="Transparent" borderWidth="0"/>
        <Text text="@title" location="1,3" size="98,22" font="TitleSmall" align="Left"/>
        <Text text="@period" location="1,23" size="98,12" font="DefaultReverseMinmumItalicopaque" align="Left"/>
        <Text text="[color=Red]@description[/color]" location="1,36" size="98,60" font="[color=Red]DefaultReverseSmall[/color]" align="Left" wrap="true"/>
    </Element>

You could try upping the font sizing for @description

I have a UK widescreen TV. I asume I set the TV shaoe to 10:9 but which resolution? PAL I belive to be 720×576 but this isn't in the list.

Looking closer at the picture it's not just the size of the text, eveything has a 'shadow' to it. I've also noted that text inbeing clipped in some places, Recordings menu option and the Reoccouring recordings header for example.

Can you post a screenshot of what you're seeing? I'm curious if it shows this shadow.

If there is no shadow in the screenshot, then it must be your monitor or video card adding it at display time.
