Assign same EPG channel to two different tuners?

Assign same EPG channel to two different tuners?

I currently have a HVR-2250 dual tuner connected to my cable line, and a pair of HVR-1600 tuners connected to an outdoor antenna.

In GBPVR I could assign a single EPG channel to all of the tuners. For example, I could assign "KGW Channel 8" to all four tuners, and GBPVR would select the first available tuner when recording. It might record channel 8 from my cable connection if nothing else was being recorded, or it might record channel 8 from my antenna if the HVR-2250 tuners were recording other shows.

In NPVR I can't figure out how to accomplish the same thing. My channels from my HVR-1600 gets assigned it's own channel in the EPG listing, instead of sharing an existing channel.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Anthony

I have the same problem and even thought I in the bulk mappings assigne two channels to the same XMLTV channel and give them the exact same name they appear on two separate lines in the TV Guide.

I guess this is not implemented yet?

Say you've already setup DVB-T device, if you got to setup channels on a second DVB-T, it'll ask you if you want to copy the configuration from the existing one. When you say 'yes' to this, both devices will be available for recording those same channels, and they'll only be listed once in the app.

Things are a little more complicated if you want to have multi devices of different types of channels (say BBC1 on both DVB-S vs DVB-T), but you can do it. In the Channels screen you can highlight multiple channels, then right click and select 'merge'.

Ah, that works... Thanks. One suggestion, it might be nice to add the channel number to the "merge" list. I picked two channels to merge (#10 OPB and #52 OPB) and it just showed two OPB items in the merge list. I selected the first one and all seemed well, but if I picked the second one I assume it would have used the other EPG settings?

I don't need it now, but is there a way to "unmerge" channels on two separate tuners.

Oh, and I used the copy configuration on my HVR-2250 tuners, saved a lot of time.

Also, I noticed the "Channels" option when you right click the main screens (i.e. in the EPG display) doesn't do anything?

Finally, is it just me, or is the EPG slower than the one in GBPVR?

Thanks,

Anthony

Ok, I've added the channel number aswell for the next build.

No, you'd need to go into the capture source and delete the channel and rescan for it.

Great.

It nothing at this stage, but will eventually be some popup channel list for users that are using the application with the fullscreen PVR UI disabled. ie, for people just wanting to use it for watching tv.

What specifically - updating the EPG, viewing the TV Guide, something else? I've not noticed anything.

Scrolling through the TV guide (using the keyboard cursor key) seems to be slower than it it was on GBPVR. Not a big deal, just something I noticed.

NPVR demand loads and caches the guide the first time you view each channel. This works well here, but if you've got large database it may not perform as well. I might be able to optimise it a bit though. Approximately how many channels and days of listings do you have? If you want to zip and attach your npvr.db3 file, I'll try it here.

You'll probably have noticed its only the first time you see the listing for each channel that its a problem? ie, if you scroll down the list then back up the list, that its quicker on the way back up?

I only have 12 channels, with a 14 day listing.

I timed GBPVR and NPVR with a simple count (in my head) starting with today (July 1) and scrolling sideways till I reached the end of the listings (July 14). While this was far from an accurate speed test, it's good enough to show the speed differences:

GBPVR - I counted to 25 before reaching the end of the listings.

NPVR - I counted to over 200 before reaching the end of the listings.

In other words, NPVR is about 8 times slower... Smile I got roughly the same count whether I was scrolling forward from the start (right cursor key) or backward from the end (left cursor key).

The guide in GBPVR has a much simpler appearance than NPVR, so I wonder if all the transparency stuff is slowing down NPVR? I don't need (or even want) the background to show through, so if I can speed things up by turning that off by editing the guilde.xml file I'd be willing to try.

Out of curiosity, I removed all the "alpha" definitions from the guide.xml file. It's easier on my eyes, but I don't see that it had any effect on the scrolling speed.

I just tried GBPVR and NPVR with the same listings and looks about the same for me. I've only got a weeks worth of listings though, so this might be a factor.

Is it actually slow and annoying you? As long as its still moving several listings every second, it should be fine. If you want to jump a day at a time, just press the skip button.
