Hi,

I am a newbie to GB-PVR, and have tried to install a couple of times. However I have a problem related to EPG settings - simply how!

I have configured the Capturing Source (I have a PVR USB2) and related settings (I live in Denmark).

I have also selected the XMLTV plugin as EPG Source, but when selecting the settings (as described in the Quickstart guide) I don't know what to select at the subsequent prompt. This is not described in the Quickstart guide. The only statement here is:

"After selecting an EPG source, you should click the settings button to configure the EPG settings."

and no further guidelines.

Please help - I really want to try out this application.

You need to have installed some third-party XMLTV software on your machine. When you run this software it will generate an XMLTV file that contains all the tv show information.

In the GB-PVR XMLTV settings, you need to browse and select the XMLTV file with the show information.

There is an application called o2grabber which I believe works for Denmark. It saves a data in xmltv-format, but is a bit easier to use than xmltv itself. Check it out here. Good luck :-)

Hi,

Thanks to both of you for helping here.
I've managed to get the EPG list created in GB-PVR (using the application suggested by Stefan - thx), but when I start GB-PVR and hit the live TV button, I get an object related error (don't remember the full text).
One thing I noticed (don't know if that's important or not), that the channel list shows two digit channel numbers for the first 2 entries (DR1 & DR2), but 4 digits for the remaining app. 25 channels downloaded (100x type numbers).

I'm running XP Pro SP2 with .NET framework 1.1 installed (incl. the last patch)

Hey, you're on your way =) It was quite a while since I got my channel mappings correct, so I haven't tried this myself, but have you read Configure Channel Mappings? I think you might get some useful info there =)

And this might help too:

Since I have now for the 4th time installed GB-PVR, and now right I want to share my information with other Dutch users.
All Dutch cable companies use different channel schemes for the channels they offer. There are many ways to do theis, but this one worked for me. It doesn't matter which cable provider you've got.
The following scheme will help you out as a beginner (which I was 8 days ago).
1. Install dotnetfx.exe
2. Install XMLTV (or another one) in a separate directory "XMLTV"
(Since this is all DOS operated you can do it on any PC in your network and later copy the whol directory to your HTPC).
2a. Run "xmltv.exe tv_grab_nl --configure" on a command line in a DOS window and answer all the questions. Return means yes. Choose only the channels present on your cable system. enter "no" for the rest.
2b. Run "xmltv.exe tv_grab_nl --output your.xml" again on a command line in a DOS window. (choose any name for your.xml, as long as the suffic remains .xml. You can also make a batch file out of it and let Windows Task Scheduler run it each day about two hours before GB-PVR starts updating (this will become clear later)).
3. Install GB_PVR (directions in Quickstart on the homepage of GB-PVR)
4. After install the config screen comes up automatically. Close it, copy your XMLTV directory completely in your GB-PVR directory and start config.exe in the GB-PVR dir again.
4a.Start with the tab "Capture Sources".
4b.Click on "add" an fill in "Source name" (any name you want to give it)
4c. Choose "Recording Source" and click on settings (choose capture kaart from drop-down list) and choose "Netherlands" from the drop down list.
4d. Choose "EPG Source" (XMLTV) and click on settings an direct it to the "your.xml" file you made in step 2b.
5. Click on OK. and then in the config screen again on OK. Config will now save it's settings.
6. Start Config.exe again, click on tab "Capture Sources".
Under this window you will see "Update EPG". It will now (behind the scenes) go to "your.xml" and you will see the list of channels you chose in step 2a.
The numbers of the channels don't reflect the real channels on your cable system!!! You need some more steps to do that!.
7. Click op OK in "Capture Sources" and op OK in Config.
It saves now your new settings.
Start "TuningAssistant.exe" (you'll find it in this forum. including instructions). Write down every channel number GB-PVR finds (note that some channels are double or triple frequencies, choose the best).
When you're done, you'll have written down a list of channels (Nederland 1 etc) and the channel numbers GB-PVR uses (not the same channels numbers as you cable company uses!!!Wink.
8. Start config.exe again, click again on "Capture sources" and change the channels numbers there into the channel numbers you just wrote down.
9. Click op OK in "Capture Sources" and op OK in Config.
It saves now your new settings again.
10. But you want your channels, of course, in a different order!
Start config.exe again, click on "Channels" (the tab on the right) .
There you will see your channels in a random order. Just change the channel numbers there in the order you like. And don't be afraid, it changes only the order in which you see the channels in your EPG "Electronic Programming Guide" and in live tv.
10. When you're done with this start config.exe again and fille in all the rest, like plugins, decoder etc.etc. But don't forget that a setting is only saved after you clicked "OK" on the tab and "OK" in config.
11. When all is done and you look in awe at the result, make a donation to Sub, for all his work.

cheers, arttext

Hi Arttext,

Thx for you input. Following your step-by-step guide I now have live TV using GB-PVR.

However stil got two problems:
1) sound is not synchronized with the pictures.
2) TuningAssistant does not display the channels found.

Any solutions to this?
