Sub,

I know the question has been asked before but are there any plans to include an option for recording based on keywords as was available in XRECORD ?

Now that XRECORD has gone I am not aware of any other options for this functionality. I know that EWA can be used for this if you are using a web interface but its likely fairly common for your users to use NPVR as a standalone PVR operated with a remote.

Is anyone aware of another option for recordings based on keyword search that can be operated with a remote ?

Regards

Pretty much the same as my suggestion: http://forums.gbpvr.com//showthread.php?...llenge-%29

I didnt have any plans on this front, but I could maybe see about adding it in a future release.

I've never seen XRecord. What exactly did it offer the user in terms of keyword searching? Did the user just enter a keyword used to create recordings, or were there more criteria the user applied (channels, times, exclude words etc). I dont imagine I'd want to commit the time to create anything too elaborate on this front, but I need to understand what functionality you're trying to replicate.

It's really the CDK Scheduler part of XSuite that we're talking about. XRecord is simply placing a GUI layer above CDK Scheduler making it easy to use. Looking at the well documented XML Schema definition for PriorityRecordings.xml shows the rich feature set of CDK Scheduler.

Thanks. Its unlikely I'd add a screen supporting all those attributes - far too much effort required.

XRECORD was superb (thanks to Fla and predecessors) but I think most users would be happy with less that it provided. Having a couple of additional options within the standard recording tool would be great. My thoughts:
Priority 1
- "Partial" match for Program Title eg: so that you can pickup a series even when they add text like "Season Finale" to the title.
- "Exact" match for Program Title eg: so that you can pickup shows like "House" without picking up every show with the word "House" in the title.
- Keyword within programme description eg: so that you can pickup all shows with the word "Attenborough" in them if you like his documentaries.
Priority 2 - these are often useful and would be nice
- Having the Channel Number as one of the parms is also useful so that you can further isolate searches if you need to.
- Having the day of the week as one of the parms is also useful so that you can further isolate searches if you need to.

I have been using XRECORD in GBPVR to load a list of recordings for the family. We dont need to review the programme guide to watch out for our shows. The system will automatically pick them up when they return to air. For me its a key PVR feature that I would love to see return Smile

If anyone is interested I've got a Search plugin for N-PVR available for beta test if you PM me your email. It is based on NEWA which provides a lot of potential

- Search within Title or Subtitle/Description
- Partial and exact match searching
- Record or cancel recording
- Sort results by Title or Date
- Remote phone style text entry

Yes, it works with the remote, my main use is on an extender. Text is entered using keypad text format http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/co...ad.svg.png

I am adding this note to this post because automated recordings is a planned feature of SearchLite.........

[COLOR="gray"]SearchLite is a very nice tool but it does not allow a user to setup recordings based on an automated daily keyword search of the EPG.

Keyword based recordings solve a number of issues:
- You can setup a list of recordings for your favourites shows regardless of whether they are in the EPG. When they return to the EPG they are automatically recorded.
- A station will often advertise a show before it is in the EPG. With keyword based recordings you can set it up for recording immediately rather than write yourself a todo list item to remember to record the show when it eventually arrives in the EPG.
- Series often change title - eg they will attach "Season Finale" to the title. A Keyword based recording can avoid this issue ensuring that you dont miss key episodes because the name has changed.
- You can setup recordings for personalities you like eg "attenborough" - I love his documentaries.

With the loss of XRECORD we now lose this functionality in NPVR. I know that EWA included this functionality but I am sure many of us use our PVRs as standalone systems operated by remote. I dont want to have to fire up a keyboard/mouse everytime I want to do a recording.

As I understand it recordings by keyword is a common PVR function - certainly MCE and others have it. It would be much appreciated if you could consider including it in the tool. Please let me know if this is likely.
