There appears to be one last minor bug with the EPG udpate process. If there is a recording in progress during the EPG update, it will be duplicated and a second recording of the same show will start as soon as the reload of the recording schedule is completed.

In the attached log you'll see the Zula Patrol recording will start at 3:00am, and then once the EPG update finishes it starts recording the same show again on a new, previously non-existent recording #. Both recordings show up in Ready, the second is just missing the first couple of minutes.

I'm reasonably sure this will only happen with a recurring recording.

I'll probably just move my EPG update to 4:00am, unless you want me to test something. As far as I'm concerned this bug is just something for a future release, nothing that needs immediate fixing with a patch.

I have also found that when I have the .28 orphan error that shows in your log, my canceled recordings also start re-recording when the service restarts.

oh, interesting, I didn't even catch the orphaned recording cleanup there. I think those were all test recordings I was doing earlier, quick records that I cancelled after a few minutes. I have another thread where the orphan recording cleanup actually cancelled a real recording in progress (and one that got me and my "stupid tv computer project" in dutch with the wife again). I notice it never succeeds in cleaning up those orphan recordings, until the service is restarted.

I was just checking some recordings, and discovered that when the recording service tried to kill those 'orphaned' recordings at the end of the EPG update, it did in fact kill the existing Zula Patrol recording; it is truncated at about 2 minutes and 22 seconds. This is the same issue as I reported here: http://forums.gbpvr.com//showthread.php?...-recording

However this is unrelated to the duplicate recording issue - the recording in progress during the EPG update will be duplicated regardless of whether there are any orphan recordings detected.

Yesterday I scheduled a couple of recordings using NEWA, and this morning I discovered that both were recorded double, with one of each recording marked as "Failed because the recording service...". Another thins I'v noticed is that recordings scheduled from NEWA never turns red in tv-guide, but they are recorded anyway. Unfortunately the logs are gone.

was there an epg update between the time you scheduled the recordings and the time they recorded?

I don't think so, I scheduled sometime in the evening and the first recording was about 04:30. I'v set the auto epg-update to 06:00 (AM). However, when I checked the guide today I only had two days of epg, after doing a manula update I have 7 days again. I wonder if disabling the autoepg and just running a "NextPVR -updateepgonly" every morning would work better?

I guess we'd have to look at the logs to see what might have happened. Perhaps sub could remove some of the "GetQuality()" messages so the logs don't fill up in less than a day?

Now THAT would certainly make them more readable.

Just a bump to say this still occurs with 1.5.31. I long ago moved my EPG update to 4:00am to avoid the duplication of the 3:00am recording, but I recently forced an EPG update to test the "recording timezone update" patch and it happened to have been just after a recording started, and it duplicated itself.

I no longer consider it a problem, but I just want to make sure this is somewhere on your minor bug list to get fixed one day.
