nPVR and DVD playback using FFDshow Audio and Video decoder = black screen

The question are simple - why it does not work if FFDShow is in use? Playback start, i can hear audio, graph is builded correctly but there is only blackscreen. Tested on Win XP and Win7 - same result.

Yes, it is working with PDVD video decoder, but that is not solution...

FFDshow have some + comparing to PDVD decoder like:

+it is free
+can output MPEG-2 to NV12 (21) = hardware deinterlacing
+crop black borders
+gamma corection to make black=black (not gray)
+no problems with DVD navigation (highlighted buttons if EVR is in use on Vista/Win7) = no need to use Line 21 decoder

This solution working great in most of other player like MPC-HC, MediaPortal, etc... but not in nPVR.

Is the graph it is building correct, and does the same graph work for you in GraphEdit? ie, NPVR doesnt really play any in DVD playback, it just builds the graph and calls Run.

Yes, graph seems to be correct:

nPVR: (no idea why there are two EVR renderers - ?maybe this is the issue?)

I can create graph manually in Graphstudio, but i have no idea how to link DVD navigator with DVD files on disc...

Yeah, I'm guessing it is some how related to that second renderer. If you try it with VMR9, does it work?

I went to check it here, but I cant get ffdshow to hookup to the navigator here in GraphEdit. Is there some special setting I need to enable in the ffdshow settings? I have MPEG2 enabled in the ffdshow codec list.

Check if you enable DVD decoding (on MPEG-2 codec) in FFDShow setting or try SAF5, all is already predefined here. SAF 5 have special profiles created for MPEG-2 (LiveTV/DVD) to make it look as best as possible.

which codec are you using for mpeg2? libavcodec or libmpeg2?
[both in current tryouts are dvd enabled]
libmpeg2 always was most compatible for me, but libavcodec has come a long way...
[only libmpeg2 use to do dvd decode, it's new for libavcodec]

aha,i got it working for me by unselecting yuy2 and forcing only nv12 output...[used libavcodec and evr on xp]
confirmed by setting back and forth, yuy2 + yv12 = black screen, yv12 only = good...
[yuy2 is always preferred if available, i wish it were the opposite..backwards priority, giving nv12 hardware accell if available, and only going to lesser colorspaces if no hw available]
but that's a ffdshow issue..

I eventually found that checkbox. After enabling it, the decoders hoooked up, but the video was black. If I connect to the graph in GraphEdit, pause the graph, break the Navigator SubPicture -> ffdshow 'InText' pin connection, then hit play, the video plays fine. So its something funny about the ffdshow subpicture support.
