I have been using GBPVR for a while and want to upgrade to NPVR. I have a Hauppauge PVR150 and an ATI TV Wonder 650 that have both been working in GBPVR. When I setup both tuners in NPVR, the PVR150 works perfectly, but the ATI 650 throws an error stating, "Unable to Communicate with the Recording Service" or "Unable to find the Capture Device". I have searched the forums for a similar problem, and have tried the patches without success. I have attached my logs for when I try to use the ATI 650 tuner as well as the results of FilterCheck.

Are you sure you've had the 'ATI TV Wonder 650' working for analog in GBPVR? It doesnt look like it has a hardware MPEG2 encoder.

Yes. I have been using it for two years and have recorded two shows simultaneously multiple times. I am certain it has a hardware MPEG2 encoder.

To clarify, I do not use the digital side of the tuner. I only use analog to capture from my cable stb.

Again, for clarification. I am running the ATI Theater 650 Pro not the TV Wonder 650. Sorry.

Went 'round for awhile with another guy trying to use a 650 with gb-pvr; same story, filtercheck didn't seem to show a hardware encoder, yet all evidence said it had one. We never solved anything for him as far as I know. http://forums.gbpvr.com//showthread.php?...-no-analog

Have you tried setting it up with software encoding?

The tuner is a hybrid tuner, so I can't use the digital and the analog at the same time, but I don't even have the digital side setup.

I have not tried setting it up with software encoding. Could you point me to some instructions on how to set that up? I would rather not use software encoding, but it would be better than throwing down $ for a new tuner card.

I agree that it's not a good solution, but you could try just for a test. Look in AnalogDevices.xml and find your card, change "<TYPE>HARD_ENCODE</TYPE>" to say SOFT_ENCODE.

I guess you'll have to set up the card again, but I'm not sure.

it should have a hardware encoder, but i think they put it in the mux section instead of encoder section but it's still there..

filtercheck should be modified to show the 'KSCATEGORY_MULTIPLEXER' category to show other devices that have their encoder in that section..
[so far i have seen at least 2 cards [all ati and a sony card] with that problem]
but it makes me wonder how to use a software mux on a stream that's already muxed?

anyways, far as i know, there's no difference between theater 650 pro and tvwonder 650, both should have a hardware encoder...
