In Denmark, one of the major danish TV stations(TV2) has chosen not to "burn in" the subtitles, not a problem for me as long as it´s english speeking films. But for my wife it´s a major problem.

For playing on PC not a problem, VLC player shows the DVB-C subtitles just fine, when selected.

But for playing on our network media player, there is no subtitles and no options to select DVB subtitles(the NMP show .srt and so on).
I think this is a general problem for all NMP´s.

Is it possible to make an option, to select, to have the subtitles burned in(on) the recorded show? Maybe even Individual recordings? Or to extract subtitles to .srt?

Now THAT is something I'v struggled a lot with :o, so if you find a solution I'm very interested. I tried to use "ConvertX2dvd", which is supposed to be able to take a HD (or SD) recording and make a dvd with subtitles of it, but it crashes every time I try. I can extract the dvb-c subtitles as .sup and .ifo or individual subpictures using "ProjectX", but I'v not found an ocr-ripper that can make .srt of them.

I posted this solution to burn subtitles into the image http://forums.gbpvr.com//showthread.php?...post353149 which should work with some tweaking on most media extenders.

Hi there
This has been discussed in a previous thread and sub would look into it, but there have probably been alot of other things to look at in the new, super cool nPVR-version.

Sorry, but I wouldnt build that directly into the application (since it'd required decoding, merging the subtitle, and re-encoding...a ton of CPU, high-likelihood of sync problems etc). As suggested by others above though, you might be able to roll your own post recording solution though, using the PostRecording.bat.

Just chiming in with a "I would like a solutioin for this too". Smile

I've had to discard some non-english films due to this.

Edit: Saw Sub postinmg while I did - but what we reaaly want is for it to be displayed properly - it's apparently in the file. Not really liking a reencode thing other than for the last resort.

Thats not the poster was asking for though. He literally wanted it re-encoded so he could burn the subtitles into the recording so he'd see them when he watched recordings from his network player device.

can't you just use a util to extract a .srt in post processing.bat?
i used to do that for atsc streams but it should work for dvb-c as well..
i can't seem to find the util but a quick search should turn one up..

here ya go..
i got them extracted from sample file from RedDwarf [ http://www.megaupload.com/?d=W5PPEHUA] with http://www.cs.usyd.edu.au/~efax/DVBTextSub.html ,with this cmd line:
dvbtextsub 579 299 -srt < "Stone Cold_20091030_21002300.ts" -out output.srt
579 is teletext pid and 299 is language codepage.

output looks like:
Code:
1
00:00:04,220 --> 00:00:08,820
Gud tilgir deg,
men det gjör ikke Broderskapet.

2
00:00:09,160 --> 00:00:12,020
Du kan ikke dra.

3
00:00:12,360 --> 00:00:16,040
-De vil komme etter deg.
-Hvem bryr seg?

4
00:00:16,400 --> 00:00:20,520
De kan pröve å drepe meg
om de vil, jeg tar den sjansen.

5
00:00:21,880 --> 00:00:24,360
Hör på meg, Nancy.

mediainfo http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en can tell you the language id easily..
would be nice if it extracted all to a file/per language tho..
