I've trained GBPVR to do a lot of exciting things, including, with the help of GraphRecorder, streaming flash video into TV recordings.

The problem I am having is that I can't time-shift the FLV files because the GBPVR recording service will not recognise that extension. When I change the extension to .mpg, the file plays after it is complete, but not while it is downloading.

I realise that GBPVR and its plugins are now considered "legacy" products, but I can't upgrade to NPVR, at least until Graphrecorder and other products have been updated. I was wondering how difficult it would be to get the service to recognise an FLV extension? Alternatively, does anyone know how I can convince my codecs to use the FLV decoder if the MPG decoder doesn't work?

Sorry, but I suspect you're out of luck on that one. It'd require quite a few changes to GBPVR to get that to happen.

Hopefully, then, someone can help me with the second question, as that solution would not involve changes to GB-PVR.

Yes, it and the others bundled with the K-Lite pack I am using do the job for either, provided the files are identified correctly. The issue is that, in order to make an FLV appear as a recording, I have to "trick" GraphRecorder and GB-PVR by changing its filename extension to ".mpg". This causes the wrong codec to be activated when I try to play the file. It actually still plays once the file is completely recorded, but gives blank video and audio when I try to timeshift a file in the process of recording. I need help from someone who can guide me in how to set my registry to try the mpeg decoder, then go on to try the flv decoder, for files with a ".mpg" extension.

How about this: Before the .mpg recording file appears, I use SQLite to alter gbpvr.db3, replacing the filename ending in .mpg with a nearly-identical filename, but this time ending in .flv? Then, my procedure hardlinks a file pointer with that name to the streaming file (as it does already)?

Would that make GBPVR respond to the .flv file as though it were a recording?

Fair enough. I guess my question is: Can I edit the database to expect a filename that is different from the default?

I dont think you'd be able to do it before the file is created, but after its created you should be able to.

Interesting. Wouldn't you be afraid of what would happen if the file was already playing (e.g. when timeshifting)? I guess one can't go wrong with a proper backup.
