Hi, it's me again... Big Grin

A couple of weeks, all were fine. GB-PVR running well, EWA running fine and streaming were wonderful. Ok... until yesterday. Since 8 hours i try to watch a live stream via EWA at work and don't have success. I don't know, if EWA ist going crazy or VLC just don't want to work.

Server is Windows 7 64-Bit. GB-PVR and EWA are latest builts, VLC is 1.1.4. Yesterday all were fine, but today? I start from the client a movie and want to watch this one. From UltraVNC i have a look on the server (TaskManager) and can see, that vlc.exe is fired up. But... cpu usage stays constantly at 0 percent? I really tried since 8 hours... reinstalled EWA, rebooted the server / client a lot of times.

What could this be? Any idea? ^.^

EDIT: I can confirm, that VLC is working fine. Just tested to stream manual only via VLC. I changed nothing on the server... it's curious... oO

Can you watch a stream on the host machine? This will help determine if it is a firewall issue perhaps.

Hi UJB ^^

There is no firewall problem. I disabled the firewall -> no success. Via internet? no success. Via lan? no success. Local? no success.
As i wrote before: If i fire up VLC manual and stream over port 7648, then vlc is running fine and i can watch any movie (.iso, .mkv). If i start streaming via EWA, then VLC is starting up, but stays at 0 percent cpu usage. Like as it became a wrong commandline...

GB-PVR and EWA are running as local system.

I have really no idea, what it could be. It run, run run run runs... and suddenly: It will not work anymore if it's started from ewa. There was no changing. No new hardware, no new software, no new config, no new update... just nothing. o.O

What is in the EWA log (you can get to it from the statistics tab)? When you start the stream you should see the command line that EWA is using. Post it here.

Are you now reading recordings from a NAS that you were not before?....could be a security thing trying to stream from the web app.

Do you have the gbpvr recording service flagged to allow interaction with desktop?

Something had to have changed somewhere if it was working....and now suddenly it doesn't work.

I have no idea. If i try to open the logfile "http://192.168.0.11:7647/gbpvr/public/download.ashx/-1,1" i get only a white background within the browser and no information.

UncleJohnsBand Wrote:Are you now reading recordings from a NAS that you were not before?
Nope, no changing in this direction. A couple of weeks before all went fine.

UncleJohnsBand Wrote:Do you have the gbpvr recording service flagged to allow interaction with desktop?
Yes! I even tried to change the account to a local user (with password) -> no success.

UncleJohnsBand Wrote:Something had to have changed somewhere if it was working....and now suddenly it doesn't work.
Yeah... i think this too, but i really have no idea what it could be. It must be something between EWA and VLC, but what could it be? I can plan recordings via EWA, browse the folders, get information of recording and cache drive.
VLC manually started to stream on port 7648 works too, local, within lan and even via wan. But it won't work, if EWA calls it. I cleared the browsercache, reinstalled VLC, reinstalled EWA, deleted all VLC caches etc. ; i get this function for now not to work.

I tried NEWA from within nPVR, but with this i have much lesser luck: If i try to browse into any folder (music, video, picture) then i get an error messege; so i can not test, if it would at least work within nPVR...

This tells me there is something inherently wrong.....that is EWA trying to stream the log file to your local machine over 7647.....it would appear that something is blocking that traffic as well.

Did you setup NVPR to point to your folders....it defaults to something so you need to set those up.

What is the error message? Access NEWA from the local machine so you get the full message. on the machine hosting NPVR use http://localhost:8866

So, i could finally bring back vlc to stream (via accident!!). I compared the sout instructions from vlc started manual to stream and vlc started by ewa. EWA makes an error on the "scale" setting. I ever used the scale "00.50" and it worked. As described in this first post, one day it wouldn't run (of course i changed often the settings and updated them, but not the scale setting). Today i set the scale setting just to "01.00" and suddenly VLC started to stream video! EWA / NEWA are the same behaviours.

But GB-PVR and EWA are not more... i uninstalled them already.

I have now the problem, that i can not access the folders of nPVR (pictures, music, video). Within nPVR itself no problem (folders are like: D:\Media\Videos\Filme\FSK12\whatahotmovie.iso) with full access. If i try to access these folders from NEWA (internet / lan / local server) then i get the following error message:

You need to use the ShareHelper utility so that the shares are mounted by the system so when NEWA goes to access them it does not have to make the server connect to the server where the files are.....when NEWA runs it runs under a different account which often times cannot make the connection.....whereas NPVR being a PC based (not web based) application it can make the connection.

Hi UJB and thank you. ShareHelper Utility even for local folders neccessary? oO I am really not a friend of installing hundreds of services to windows. Services are, belong to the kernel, the heart of an os. More services = more risk for instable systems. Is this Utility really neccessary, even EWA CAN(!) access the same folders, but NEWA can't?

If you have the drives mapped such as D:\Media\Videos\Filme\FSK12\whatahotmovie.iso) in the NPVR config then you should be able to get by with the NPVR service running as local system account with the interact with desktop checked. If you are already doing that and you are not seeing the info in NEWA then you can try changing the account that the NPVR service runs under to be a named user account on the server.

But if you do what I do and have the NPVR config set to use the UNC paths then you will need to use ShareHelper.
