Hi all,

Have noticed that every now and then when watching live tv (no recording in progress) that my display will go very stuttery for a few seconds, and at the same time my PC will make a new whirring sound (sorry, I've never been close enough to see exactly what it is).

I have 2 sata drives, most of my media folders are all on this 2nd drive including recordings but photos are across my network on a QNAP NAS, and the Live Tv Buffer is in the default C:\Temp\.

I'm thinking my drive D is going to sleep and perhaps nPVR is checking in every now and then hence the stutteriness, whirring up.
Or, perhaps it's the auto-fan on the mb Cpu which is stealing my cpu to do housekeeping.

Any ideas before I start troubleshooting?

Ian.

Have you checked the cpu temperature? I had a similar problem a while ago, and it turned out that the cooler on my cpu was filled with dust so air could not circulate properly. Hence, the MB throttled the cpu when it got too hot, and that made everything stutter. A cleaning of the fan and cooler fixed the problem :o

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

The PC is about a week old, all brand new. I did leave it open that first couple of days to make sure everything was ok.

Will I have Windows Resource Monitor running in the background now, so will see what it says next time it happens. At least then I'll know if it's Cpu resources being stolen, HD activity etc.

I suppose one thing to try is to disable the idle timeout on all your disks and see if the problem goes away?
