So this is kind of an odd problem and i couldnt find anything truely similar in either gbpvr or npvr sections.

So important pc info i suppose
AMD 4400+
nvidia 8600gt
ASUS A8N Premium mobo
2gb of ram

TV is a panasonic TC-P42C2 if it matters (with an onkyo 607 receiver)

Basically i have npvr just for media playback. Dont use it at all for tv. In fact the only plugins that are "active" is Movies, DVD, and exit. What happens is i use the computer for normal day to day things and leave it on 24/7. I have found that if i restart my pc npvr plays back the files just fine. Perfectly infact. I usually watch tv at night with sleep mode to turn off the tv. When i wake up in the morning and get on the computer it is slow and the mouse doesnt track smoothly but rather "skips" a bit as it goes across the screen. Its like itll move half an inch just fine then it sort of lags and ends up skipping to catch up. Once i close npvr it works just fine with no skipping. Now if i load up npvr again and try to play a video file it is stuttery (is that a word?). For instance if there is snow falling rather than a straight smooth fall, the snow falls for a second or two then jumps down a bit rather than being a smooth straight fall. Its kind of like the mouse problem just with video instead.

I have tried using both the Overlay and EVR. VR7 and VR9 didnt show anything but black on my tv. This problem occurs on both 1080p and 720p HD files (encoded with x264) as well as plain SD (xvid) files. I use CoreAVC for HD and ffdshow for xivd. I also tried ffdshow for hd but saw the same results. I also installed all the patches (especially the evr memory leak on and ntray cpu one) and didnt see any difference.

Also of note, even when npvr is doing this i can close npvr, fire up pvrx2 and it works flawlessly. To get npvr working again i have to reboot the pc which is kind of annoying to do just for watching videos.

Any ideas as to why it would be doing this?

i'm guessing XP...sp3?
maybe try <ForceMpgGraph>false</ForceMpgGraph> in config.xml?

you did run the directx update for npvr right?

its an nvidia 8600gt with latest drivers
OS is windows xp SP3 with all updates.

The directX when i went to install just mentioned i had a newer or similar update and didnt need the one provided in the thread for "npvr survival guide" (sticky)

Files being played range from .avi and .mkv to .mpg as well. It plays them back just fine and no matter the file type i get the stuttering.

<ForceMpgGraph>false</ForceMpgGraph> in config.xml
that change didnt fix anything either.

it almost feels like the video is playing at like .8 speed while the audio is playing normal. So you get the video "catch up" jump. If that helps at all.

if it plays ok at first then your setup is probably ok, i'd look at overheating, cpu low power mode stuff, check bios for anything related, and screensavers...
oh, and check the event viewer for errors...
