So i am looking to upgrade my graphics card on my 785g motherboard. I currently have a 65 watt processor, hard drive, dvd drive and memory, with a 270 watt power supply. What are the chances i can get something like this in my machine to function

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...-_-Product

Or can someone recommend something for HDTV that might work
HTPC Server: 2.3gh AMD Quad 9600, 4GB ram, 320gb HDD, 1TB HDD, and 750GB External USB HDD, NVIDIA GeForce 8600gt, Win 7 (32bit), (2x) HVR2250 using QAM

Client: AM2 5600, biostar 790GX (onbard HD3300), 4gb memory, Vista, LM remote mapping app, Acer Revo R3610 (Atom N330) Win 7, 785G (HD 4200), Win 7, 4gb ram

Sure it might work
but those unexpected crashes you will get thats the power supply choking
Why not just get a bigger power supply also

Just because the power supply is bigger doesnt mean it will use more power it might actually use less.

I recently tried to find a decent PCI-Express card that would work with a 300w PSU and there are very few that are spec'ed as being able to function with anything less than a 400w PSU.

I have a machine in a MicroATX case so finding stronger PSU's is a bit difficult - but it will open up your video card options quite a bit. I'm sure you weren't thinking to drop coin on a new PSU as well but 270w is really woefully underpowered for a modern machine.

Maybe this one? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6817338019

I have a MicroATX case as well that has a proprietary psu from what i have read, there are some other cases that use a higher watt psu that is compatible, but a 320 is the max and you are right i dont really want to spend the extra cash if i dont have to

that is just a 'recommended' ps level....to eliminate *any* possibility of power problems to ease support costs..
i've had several ati cards work on 120w psu no problems...
you might wanna stay away from ddr3 as it will use unnecessary power...

i've run a hd4650 for years now on a 250w without problem..with same cpu and a capture card...
most pc's only use <200w unless using a monster graphics card..all ati mid/low-end cards are easy on power...search for power usage reviews for that card an you'll see..
i believe, less than 50w.. ati X4XX crds are good choices....4350,4550,5450
