nPVR hangs while trying to play .mp4 or .m4a files

I couldn't find in the forums anywhere what audio files nPVR supports. I can't get it to play files downloaded from iTunes (mp4 or m4a). Are these supported? If it's a codec issue, what do I need to install?

When it comes to files other than .ts and .mpg, NPVR just asks Windows to play them. Sorry, I dont play these file types myself, so I cant recommend which decoders you should install to get them working, but with the right decoders they should play fine in NPVR.

many itunes files are DRM protected, can you play them in WMP?
if you need a decoder [aac] there's a nice one on MPC-HC site..plus a mp4 splitter..
itunes uses quicktime to play them internally, but it isn't usable in directshow apps easily..

They play fine in WMP, but when I try to play then in nPVR it hangs, and I have to kill it in Task Manager.

If you post your npvr.log after attempting to play one, I should be able to tell you what decoders its using, which are causing this problem. Its probably a useful step along the way to fixing the problem.

you probably need a splitter. media player has it's own splitter, but it's not usable by outside apps. I think I installed the mp4splitter from the MPC-HC filter pack here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/mpc-hc/files/. There's an mpa splitter in there as well. those should get you going I think. if that doesn't do it then post your logs.

yea, that sounds like windows can't find a filter to play them with stuck loop...takes a while but eventually ends...[minutes]
i vote mp4 splitter too..

Thanks for the help, I just tried MP4 splitter - no difference and no adittional info in the logs.

try the mpc-hc mpa decoder, mine uses mpc mp4 splitter and mpa decoder with those files..
it's a mpeg audio decoder but also decodes aac as well..

sounds like one of your decoders isn't working on that file and gets stuck...mpa decoder has high merit so should be tried first..
