After many years of Gbpvr, decided to try NPVR.
Now the situation is certainly better.
The software is lightwight, fast and well programmed.
There's only a major problem (in my configuration).
Channel managing.
List of problems:
1) Dvb-s scanning crashes; Dvb-t works. In my configuration has always crashed from gbpvr times.
2) Difficulty in adding/modifying transponders .ini files: where to put fec, rollup, modulation etc, like is done in kingofsat's inis?
3) Not very user-orientated channel managing (IMHO): it would be wonderful a very simple, system:after scanning, posibility to choose from the whole list of channels found and add them in different groups (favourites, sky, cyfra, and so on);
4) Don't know if it's already planned, but it would be wonderful to separate tv from radio channels.
Don't get me wrong: I know that we are in early stage of development, only want to improve a very well done piece of software.
Anyway, scan problem is the only thing that makes NPVR unusable.
Logs attached.
Thanks to anyone can help,
sdf

I reply to myself.
Maybe I've found something.
I divided hotbird transponders list (100 transponders) in 5 inis of 20 transponders each.
The scan never crashed and found all channels (also s2).
I've made so because dvb-t scan (that has less channels) never crashes.
It seems to me that the problem is related to a sort of buffer in which all scanning results are put that grows too much and causes crash.
Maybe this could be of help to the developers.
Win7 x64 and Cinergy S2 HD CI.
Bye,

Unfortunately each and every manufacturer's DVB-S2 cards use their own proprietary extensions for doing DVB-S2 tuning, so I have to implement specific code for manufacturer. I've only done that for Hauppauge card, since this is the only S2 cards I have, so these are the only S2 compatible device. You should be able to use any manufacturer's cards for DVB-S though.

The number of transponders shouldnt have made any difference. I know some european user have scanned large numbers on transponders without issue. It's more likely it saw something in the data of one transponder that it didnt like. Usually when this happens, I get the user to find the transponder causing the issue, and capture a short full transport stream from that frequency so I can run it up here in the debugger to find/fix the bug.

The format used by NPVR/GBPVR is pretty standard, and the same used by many DVB applications for years. I'm pretty sure kingofsat's ini format is the same, but they've tacked extra fields on the end (ignored by NPVR/GBPVR)

I've made an s2 transponders list and NPVR found 200 channels withour crashing.
At first I thought was a specific frequency fault, because the crash occurred at the same frequency. But when I divided the transponders list in smaller parts, NPVR scanned that frequency perfectly. So, at least in my configuration, the problem is that Hotbird contains too much channels. Scanning separate and short transponders list, NPVR found 1700 channels in Hotbird.

Thank you. I found another thread with the method of conversion from binary to decimal.
P.S.: I've noticed that radio recordings are really big (35M for 1 minute). It sems to me that NPVR records also video. Don't know if you are aware of the issue.
Thank you,

That was for optional paramater that could be added at the end for extra features on DVB-S2 frequencies (for supplying S2 modulation/rolloff/pilot). This wont do anything on your Cinergy S2 HD CI though.

It'll record anything related to a channel, so it'll also include any data streams your broadcaster transmits associated with it. ie, you could get data services, such as MHP or MHEG-5 etc.

Ok, I'll put it on my list of things to investigate in future.
