Maybe this is a "feature" of nPVR, but it seems that when you're watching live TV and you decide that you want to record the show and hit record, it knocks you out and then re-starts the recording, and you lose anything that has been seen thus far.

Even if you rewind to the beginning of the show and then hit record, it still discards the buffer and starts over. (I've set the SlipSeconds registry key to something sufficiently high to keep the whole show on disk)

is this something that just won't work in nPVR anymore?

I think the way you describe it is how it is supposed to work now, but I'd rather have it changed to do it the old way so the whole recording is saved.

Yep, that is just the way it works now. Sorry, but its unlikely to change, due to the different way live tv is done.

For the vast majority of GBPVR users, it was exactly the same, since nearly everybody was using live preview mode. The behaviour you describe was only available in timeshift mode.

It is already stored to a file, Live-something.ts, so why not just rename the file and keep recording until end of show? I realize you would get everything that is buffered prior to the actual show, but that would be better than the way it is today.

i think he means the livetv buffer file isn't the same as a recorded file, like no timing.info,etc..
so it has to restart recording to make it a 'regular' recording..

but i too would rather have the ability to save it, even if it's not exactly same as regular recording..[as long as it's playable]
maybe a config setting to allow this if wanted?

I to am waiting for the return of timeshift mode, it is a superior on the NMT/MVP. Until then when I know I will be doing any seeking in livetv I can get by with quick record/play and then delete at the end, otherwise the record while playing is sufficient, when it works.

The old timeshift mode definitely wont be making a return. The new mode used by NPVR is like a combined live preview + time shift, and its way better than either of the modes GBPVR had.

There is nothing to stop us getting skipping working in live tv with NMT/MVP with NPVRs mode, in fact most of what is needed is already in place. I'm sure it's only minor things stopping it working.

Yes minor things like pay cheques, family, and friends really do get it in the way.

Your right I'm sure, once these things are worked out, it won't feel like such a difference.

So timing info is not stored in a live-tv buffer? Why? And is that the reason that jumping is so unpredictable in live-tv?

Does anyone have an old installer for the last legacy GBPVR release? I've tried and really can't get used to the frustration of not being able to save something I just saw the way I used to.

edit: found it, thanks.
