Since I installed NPVR 2.0.3 Patches R1, I have the following problem:

After starting NPVR, the first time I try to play a recorded show, I either have a blank screen or the file plays normally (some files never work, some files sometimes work and some files always work, but I didn't find any pattern yet). What is always the same is what comes next: If I try to play something after this (either the same show or another one), I get an error message: Unhandled exception has occured in a compononent in your application ... Attempted to read or write protected memory.

Some details:
- I have isolated NPVRTSReader.ax as the culprit; if I replace this file with the original from before the patch, no problems whatsoever.
- I convert all my recordings to H264 ts files - I use ffdshow to decode it in NPVR. As far as I can tell, the above error does not happen with regular mpeg ts files (I only tested it on a few though, so who knows).
- in the zip file, I have included the full error message

If you can post the crash.mdmp, I'll take a look when I'm back in NZ.

Thanks, but unfortunately I don't see any crash.mdmp file in the c:\temp folder, maybe because NPVR itself doesn't crash after the error message. If I click on the "continue" button on the error message, I can still use NPVR to watch LiveTV, etc.

Could you post a 50MB cut from one of these custom converted files this to megaupload?

I don't have any programs that I can use to cut ts files, so I just recorded and converted a 4 min segment. It turned out to be 20 MB. I use handbrake to transcode and vlc to remux into a ts file.

I get the same error on the second attempt to play this file, and sub will need to check it, but it can play ok after a remux so I suspect your creation process can be improved. Why not just leave it as an mkv from Handbrake?

If you can bump the thread in a couple of weeks, I'll check it out when I'm back in NZ.

sub: thanks, will do so.

mvallevand: what program did you use to remux it? The reason I remux into a ts, because I want to be able to watch the recorded shows through a client pc too, and as far as I understand, NPVR needs ts files for this. Correct me if I am wrong, I am kind of new to NPVR.

Several of the remuxers I use (TS4NP, mpeg2repair, and TSMuxeR) are able to fix whatever is causing NPVR to crash with the file but I could not find a why in NPVR to show a good timeline. Interestingly for me the timeline that NPVR gives to the PCH client was ok.

I don't know if you can stream mkv files, via the Recordings menus. This is is such a reduced bitrate transcode I assumed you were doing this to watch via a phone or the web.

I know I am probably the last person on Earth who still uses an old 20'' CRT TV, and an Athlon XP 2000 computer for the client PC connected to the TV, so I don't need (and couldn't use) high resolution/high bitrate. I will try these programs to see if I can use them instead of VLC to remux into ts.
