Dear all,

(hey why not? Big Grin )

this is my wish list:

1) That a NextPVR install would prompt a user if they had not installed the 'pre-requisite' software components.

2) That an XP server did NOT need a registry hack to move the DB to an accesible place for a client to pick it up.

3) That NextPVR was still renamed to something else to give it a rebirth.

4) That people fully understood the true power of NextPVR (and in addition on the Quiet Client front with the PCH).

Hmmmmm that may do for me, sorry to be so loud Big Grin

5) EDIT (actually not) I would like to see a complete re-working of the forum with many many things laid out better than they are now Big Grin )

cheers

I'm going to try to add some checks for the pre-requisites in the installer. Its not my area of expertise though, so its time consuming, and I'm also not sure how capable the installer software is in this respect.

I think we've already establish there was no strongly favored alternative, and NextPVR was as good as any other option, so I decided we'd just stick with it rather than renaming it. I dont see it changing now. You can never please everyone when it comes to names.

Like what exactly? I dont see the need for any 'complete re-working'. I'm happy enough with all the main forums.

6) after reading a recent thread - a warning if some components could not be installed or registered or started (as in not running install as an administrator and it not working, although the install appears to run fine.

(this and the above, not as moans, but as suggestions to make life easier and a better experience for new users and reduce support calls).

Sub, my NMTInstall2 installer does this already (except for WMP), and I can share the NSI code when you are back.

Yes well, 'ahem, first of all really comes an apology as I was in danger there of reverting to the steeb of old and setting off on one of my rants Big Grin Which was not my intention (in fact quite the opposite of, and also not part of my New Years resolution! For those that know will remember a New Years post Wink ) I was actually meaning to be constructive rather than destructive.

This appears to have a possible outcome seeing how the thread developed and with Martin's input? It was simply drawn from an observation that the same questions come up again and again, I wish everyone read the wiki (but they don't, and such is the way of life) but yes if an install could somehow check the 'Software Requirements' (as now re-named on the wiki), before installing, life for many may be easier. Even at worst a gentle reminder for the user @install time to make sure that they have done this?

(Having said that I am still convinced that there is an error somewhere with the way that on XP installs NextPVR is checking the DX9 runtimes and marking them as 'not available' as with 2 builds on 2 entirely different XP machines I have encountered this when blatantly the exact runtimes required are installed.)

Yes absolutely, a total unhelpful comment of mine, borne out of a frustration with something else and of no value.

Once again a typical 'over the top' steeb comment but based in some reality. I do believe that the skin and plugin threads need some work BUT until I have helped to deliver at least the new Webpages I don't know why I was even considering this.

As for 2)

I still see some quiet here Big Grin I will still hold onto that comment. I cannot see how a registry hack is a justifiable way of dealing with this issue (unless I have mis-understood it?) UNLESS the registry hack is itself done by NextPVR?

And as for 4)

Nothing can be done about that without some form of better advertising that may be helped by the webpages (when they finally happen Big Grin )

thank you all for putting up with me....

very best

steeb
