Hi there
Just moved to NPVR from gbpvr 1.4.7
I am running Win 7 64bit

Trying to set up EWA for the new PC
was reading the notes in wiki ..
"Extract the zip into your NPVR data folder using the option to use directory names."

Sorry if I appear dense but where is NPVR data folder?

Thanks for any help

Actually.....when you installed NEWA was also installed.....so it is on you system already. You need to make sure to activate it in the settings of NPVR.

The data folder is the folder you selected to store you non-application files for NPVR......if you used the defaults then it will most likley be c:\users\public\npvr then there is a \web folder under that......the NEWA version on the wiki is slightly newer that what is installed by NPVR.

Let me know if this helps.

Thanks guys ! I found the data folder

Sorry for all these newbie questions but its been a long while since I last set up EWA and I have been reading the new instructions for NPVR
but am still stuck, so please bear with me.

I can view the guide using http://localhost:7654/guide2.aspx (I changed port to 7654 because I read somewhere ISP might block port 8866)
I remember being able to stream a live program previously from GBPVR using EWA but I find this option missing in NEWA when I click on said program,
only seeing 2 options; "Record This Episode" or "Close - take no action"
Is this normal?

Also, I run DynDNS and have configured my router to open port 7654 and changed settings in NPVR to reflect same port
However, I am unable to access remotely from other PCs using http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:7654
where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP address reported by DynDNS Updater on my PC running NPVR

Am I missing something?

regards,

regards,

Yep...you can still stream. It appears if you have VLC installed and have the directory for VLC set on the NEWA configuration tab....If you are not seeing the stream option then more than likely the directory for VLC is not set correctly on the Config tab.

As for DYNDNS.......besides opening the port on the router you must also forward incoming requests on that port to the PC that is hosting NPVR.....so you have to allow access to the port on the router.....and set the port forwarding on your router to forward any requests coming in on 7654 to the local ip of the machine hosting NPVR. Also make sure that you open the 7645 port on the machine running NPVR.

For streaming you will need another port.....i.e. 7655 (you can set it on the config tab of NEWA). You need the additional port so you can stream a video but not loose the ability to navigate via NEWA. You will need to do the same thing as above for the stream port......open the port on the router and the machine hosting NVPVR and set the router to port forward incomming requests on 7655 to that local machine ip.

Thanks UncleJohnsBand

The problem appears to be with the Windows Firewall
When I turn it off, I could access remotely http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:7654
and see the guide !

So I have been trying to mess around with creating new rules to let NextPVR through
but without much success ...
I can already see under "Inbound Rules" that NextPVR for both TCP and UDP protocols are allowed

Should I be looking at creating Outbound Rules?
I replicated the settings for NextPVR under Outbound Rules for both TCP and UDP protocols
but it does not appear to work for me

Any pointers please?

Here is what I have configured in W7 firewall...

8866 is for NEWA and 7648 is the port I use for streaming.....

Is that for inbound or outbound, and this is for NextPVR.exe correct?

I already see that my inbound allows all local ports for NextPVR
and when I set all local ports outbound for NextPVR it does not appear to work.

Maybe I should just set specific ports instead of giving blanket approval?
Let me try this later tonight and revert,
Thanks again UncleJohnsBand

That was probably me, because my ISP here in HK confirmed they block it (after I couldn't work out why it didn't work). For anyone reading this thread though, it's on a case by case basis (or rather ISP by ISP); not all ISP's block that port, probably not even most....

I see, anyway I did not want to add another variable to the equation so I took it out
by choosing a "neutral" 7654 port because I was having issues connecting.
As it turns out, it was the windows firewall that was the culprit ..
So I am now trying to modify the port rules to allow for NEWA to work for me.

As mentioned above, I will try to allow specific ports rather than the "All ports" now
which does not seem to work for me anyway.

Thanks for the clarification jksmurf !
