I have PVRX2 set up to record 2 Clear QAM programs at a time from a Hauppauge 2250 card and one Clear QAM channel from a Hauppauge 1600 card. Lately, I have been getting recordings of zero bytes long. Today, I tried to find why this is happening. I thought it might be due to my trying to install NextPVR so I uninstalled NextP{VR and rebooted and still got the same problem.

I found that when I defined the 2250 card and chose the QAM version Config cmomes back and says the card is Type ATSC. When I have it rescan all the channels it doesn't find any Clear QAM (local broadcast) channels. I have Verizon FIOS for a cable provider. The CONFIG log shows an error with TVListings but I doubt this is causing my problems.

I suspect that my problems are due to CONFIG thinking that the QAM card is really an ATSC card. What can I do to fix this?

I've had a few problems with both the same cards in the older versions but next to none with NPVR. Some were due to firewall and others were flukes. I strongly suggest you stick with NPVR and am not even sure if sub is still supporting older versions.
I am not positive but I thought my 2250 was also listed as ATSC in GBPVR so I'm not sure that has anything to do with your problem.

I spent a lot of time trying to get NextPVR to work but couldn't get it to configure the capture cards so I gave up and decided to wait until it was further along and there is more complete documentation available. I also wanted to wait until utilities like UltraXMLTvEnhancer, ParaLED, and Comskip all work with NextPVR before switching to it.

The 2250 and 1600 worked flawlessly in GBPVR before but stopped recording relatively recently. I even thought that maybe Verizon had stopped broadcasting local channels in Clear QAM but I don't think that is what happened.

I personally have found NVPR to be very much easier to work with. I know my cable company has moved the QAM channels around and I may have to scan more often in the future if they keep that up. So far, only 3 seem to move regularly.
Have you tried the WinTV software that came with your tuners?

From memory, that's normal. I'm pretty sure this screen showed ATSC, regardless of whether you're doing ATSC or QAM.

Do any of your cards get QAM any more? If not, then that might be the case. Do you get QAM with these devices in any other software?

I was under the assumption that cable companies in the states have to broadcast local channels in QAM. A friend in Virginia did tell me recently that they did drop some QAM but none were the local networks in his area.

Both the 1600 and 2250 don't get the local HD channels in ClearQAM. I tried WinTV and it couldn't see the local channels in ClearQAM either.

I guess my next step is to call Verizon about this.

I think as long as they have them freely available in the old-school analog, they're not required to have them in QAM. Most do though.

The FCC has granted waivers to some cableco's that allow them to encrypt all QAM, even locals.
