Can anyone recommend a relatively cheap SMTP service provider? or possibly you run your own and are willing to share? Big Grin

The gbpvr.com web server has long had a problem with emails being rejected as spam from user's email providers. I'd like to get this resolved, because it makes it hard for users to register. It sounds like this is happening because my hosting provider has had a problem with some of their servers having been used for generating spam, causing the whole subnet to be blacklisted by some ISP...pity, because other than this I've been really happy with the hosting.

Replied. If that doesn't work, we can use my other server.

Thanks heaps. From what I can tell it seems to be working beautifully. Much appreciated.

I can see a dozen or so users that had tried to registered in the last few days, only to have their registration emails bounced as spam, so they were never able to click the link to complete their registration. Hopefully these problems will be a thing of the past now.

Sounds like you have it sorted out, but I'm curious, have you considered a Google App account? It's free if you have less than 10 email accounts and quite easy to setup for your domain. If you need 24/7 support and an SLA, it's just $5/month per user. Nice mobile access too.

I'm using their free account and have been really happy with it.

I've been using a free Google Apps account myself for quite a while. Yesterday I tried switching vbulletin over to using it for sending the email, but within a few hours the emails were being bounced back by gmail. It included a link to a page that explained that these emails looked like spam (ie, emails with links, to a lot of different email address), and stating that lots of spam users try to create google gmail accounts for sending spam, and that google will not allow this. There didnt seem to be anywhere to tell google that these emails were legit.

In summary, Google Apps appeared to be pretty good for real human to human email, but my vbulletin emails look a lot like spam to it. The paid version of Google Apps may behave differently. I dont know.

When a Google app is working, it can be a great thing. But when it stops working, they make it nearly impossible for you to contact a live human for assistance. Sad

The email changes wouldnt have caused that.

I can get to it ok by name at the moment. It might have just been a temporary dns issue.
