This is a wife-request. She can never remember what button starts a random playlist. Is there anyway to add a visual selection on the main screen that can easily be selected via remote to start one? "Random Playlist" or something along those lines?

Does she know to open the menu system in NPVR with the "menu" key? It shows there as "Random"

Sure, when she remembers that menu is there!

She represents the "average" user for something like this. A person walking in off the street is going to pick up the remote and want to navigate with the arrow keys and "ok" on the remote. No one is going to know that menu is there unless they fiddle with the remote or search here.

I only use that menu in Music Box and to set my initial views in Videos when I reinstall or setup a new system. Other than that, I complete forget it is even there. "Out of sight, out of mind", I suppose.

I think if she uses it she will remember soon enough. If not maybe she can remember that R is the first letter of both Red and Random.

As you can tell I don't want to change the basic design of NPVR which is to have a hidden menu system. Maybe try playing with MusicBox.xml skin, something like this might help

Code:
<Element name="ListPosition" location="0,90" size="35.5,10" alpha="255" alphaFade="true">
        <Text text="@positionInfo" location="0,0" size="100,50" font="Title3Minimum" align="Center" valign="Center"/>
        <Text text="Red=Random" location="1,30" size="100,50" font="Title5Small" borderColor="Border2" outlineWidth="1" align="Leftt" valign="Center"/>
    </Element>

I suppose it all depends if you consider "Random" (or selecting Playlists) to be a first level menu item or not. For us, we can't conceive of listening to music without a random play option, it's important enough to be visible and front facing. To others, it's a secondary consideration and, hence, likely relegated to a hidden, or secondary menu.

Thanks for listening.

I do consider it primary, in fact I have MB4 set to automatically start playing randomly after 2 seconds when I enter.

Hmmm, maybe I'll just do that. She does Random play only anyhow... Great suggestion!

I recommend deleting NUtility.dll from "Program Files" and running the install again.

I just discovered this interesting plugin as part of my reinstallation/migration project.

After having run the install program (even as administrator) and trying to configore the plugin, i get an error message when trying to save any options. It complains that it is missing MusicBox4.xml, which it indeed also does. I have tried creating a dummy (empty) file at the location it indicates to maybe seed it, but to no avail.

Suggestions? Maybe I can just get someones file to get over that hump and proceed with working on it? Still - there appears to be some issue with the installation package?

Maybe this snippet from the logfile helps as well:
Code:
