No sound on HD recordings

Hi everyone and this is my first post. Well done on the product " Brilliant" But i have one problem and that is i can record every channel, but only on the HD channels in the recordings there is no sound. I used windows media centre and it recorded HD channels and the sound worked. What could this be ? I'm running windows 7. using leadtek usb tuners ( 2 ). I can't see the problem being the tuners or windows. So i'm lost on this one

Hi - good to hear you like it.

I'm sure the sound will be there. The just writes the entire channel data to disk, with no filtering done, so the audio will be there. Its more likely a a playback/decoding issue. What AC3 audio decoder do you have selected?

Windows Media Center is probably using the Microsoft audio decoder that comes with Win 7. I assume this does AC3 audio that is used with HD (at least in the US, Australia I don't know). Unfortunately, 3rd party apps like NPVR can't use MS decoder (they can, however, use the MS dtv-dvd video decoder, so you should select that in the Settings-Decoders screen). AC3 filter works fine with NPVR, so you can Google on it, download, install, and then select for the AC3 decoder in the settings-decoder screen. Other folks can chime in if you have HE-AAC or other exotic forms.

these are the codecs i use for ac3 :
microsoft DTV-DVD audio decoder
ffdshow audio decoder
ac3 filter
arcsoft audio decoder

So you have tried AC3 filter and got no audio? If so, try playing the file, then zip and attach the npvr.log and I'll take a look.

hi in the meantime i'm trying to download MS dtv-dvd video decoder to try that but there are no download sites for that. If someone could post a link. Also where is the nextpvr log file kept, thanks

The Microsoft dtv-dvd video decoder wont help you. This is a video decoder. Audio is your problem.

The Microsoft audio decoder is also not usable for AC3 in 3rd party applications, so wont help either.

ok thanks. where do i find the npvr log file as i can't see it anywhere

On vista/win7 it's in c:\users\public\npvr\log
