Sort order display for Recordings

I would like see the ability for skins to display the current sort order on the Recordings listing screen and eliminate the sort order change pop-up.

For the Default skin, the attached icons could be used and displayed on the left side of the status bar.

Edit: Added .zip file with source .png files since the forum converted the individual ones to .jpg.

Preferably as sms option. I happen to like the current pop up method.

I'm with whurlston on this one. We never have enough recordings to worry about sorting them (so the default order is fine), and I'm not keen on seeing the screen cluttered up with more icons.

I don't think that whurlston was against allowing us to sort them. Especially, for those of us who use Recurring Recordings extensively and have 100+ of them! At an absolute minimum, NPVR shouldn't display a pop-up saying that it is sorting them, but then not do it--which is what it does right now.

Also, regarding the icons: as long as sub implements the ability to determine and display the sort order, it would be up to the skin's xml file to decide if and how to indicate that on the skin. So, if someone doesn't want it displayed, he/she can simply not include that display in the skin.

it does sort them, that's not a problem. in my book the problem is that the sorting pop-up takes too long to go away. the sort is done in a few hundred ms at most, but the sorting pop-up takes several seconds to time out. But of course if you make the pop-up go away instantly then you won't be able to read it. further, you can't tell by looking what the current sort mode is (other than by deduction).

so that's why I'd prefer no pop-up.

if having an icon to show the sort order is disagreeable, maybe just have changable titles for each screen, for example:
"Recordings (A-Z)"
"Recordings (Z-A)"
"Recordings (Date-)"
"Recordings (Date+)"

and the same for what's new

(personally I'd like a discrete icon, but either way is fine)

Sorry, I wasn't clear on that part. It does currently sort them in the Ready Recordings listing. But for the What's New, Pending Recordings, and Recurring Recordings listings, it displays the pop-up saying that it is sorting them, but then it doesn't actually do the sort. I was responding to Iain's comment about "never having enough recordings to worry about sorting them", and hence confused this thread.

The actual sort implementation (or lack thereof) is a bug, so it belongs in the Support forum. This thread should just be about whether or not sub we would like sub to implement the ability for skins to indicate the current sort order on the various Recordings listing screens.

All I really meant was I'd like it to be optional. I'm not opposed to being able to sort them at all. Too much unneeded waffle in my post (the steeb effect)

yeah, I guess I hadn't noticed that the other lists do show the pop-up, but don't actually sort.
