Edit: title is wrong - its 2.1.5

Busy night last night. All four tuners were recording simultaneously.
At start of pre-padding for fourth show, NPVR started saying (every few seconds)
Code:
Scheduled Recording about to start maybe a candidate for moving to another tuner (different locator than another recording on same device)
2011-07-20 21:08:47.303    [DEBUG][7]    Existing:
<frequency>767500</frequency><bandwidth>7</bandwidth>
2011-07-20 21:08:47.303    [DEBUG][7]    Required:
<frequency>662500</frequency><bandwidth>7</bandwidth>
2011-07-20 21:08:47.303    [DEBUG][7]    Was allocated to capture source21
2011-07-20 21:08:47.307    [DEBUG][7]    Checking if multi-record possible...
2011-07-20 21:08:47.310    [DEBUG][7]    Checking if multi-record possible...
2011-07-20 21:08:47.313    [DEBUG][7]    Checking if multi-record possible...
2011-07-20 21:08:47.314    [DEBUG][7]    Recording not moved. No other available tuner could be found.
2011-07-20 21:08:47.625    [DEBUG][7]    Recording due to start pre-padding, but tuner not available

However, 5 minutes later, at the actual show start time, it found one. Nothing had stopped in between. Rather alarmingly, the message
Code:
Frequency has changed, so stopping recording from previous frequency. (Handle 15)
appears in the log. I am not sure which tuner got used, so I cant tell if a show was truncated.

All shows have +5 and +15 padding.

The same problem occurred a few minutes later when another show was scheduled to start.

The problem is that there is a fourth tuner, which was available.

Rather curiously, it never seems to have run the postprocessing on the last show.

Logs and d/b attached.

I had what looks like the same issue with 2.1.5 on the 27/7/2011 at 21:28. I have 3 Hauppauge tuners, one was recording the program I was watching on another tuner using Live TV, no other recordings were in progress. two minutes before the program was due to finish I got a message on screen saying the tuner I was using was no longer available. I use 5 minutes pre padding and 10 minutes post padding. When I checked the recording to see the end of the show I found it had also stopped at the same time as the live stream.

I have attached my NPVR Recording log for the time of the recording. Hope it helps.

How many multiplexes are used in NZ?

I've not had any recording issues since changing my set-up to one tuner per multiplex here in the UK. Simply set tuner one to only see multiplex one's channels, tuner 2 to mux 2's and so on. This way the relevant tuner is always available for anything on that mux using multi-record and allows pre/post padding without interfering with follow-on recordings and the like.

Had 24 channels recording the other day, just for a laugh and to see what it could do. The 2TB 5900 rpm hard drive coped with it all fine as well.

NZ has 3 multiplexes Smile

Thanks for the suggestion. Sounds like a better configuration rather than my current setup which is all channels on all tuners. Have reconfigured this morning so will see how it goes.

How's it going - is it working for you?

Allocating one tuner for each frequency willl surely sabotage npvr's built-in strategy for scheduling the most efficient way...

Don't see how. Any given channel is only available on one tuner so that tuner will always be used for that channel. The tuner will always be available for that channel using multi-record, the most efficient way to schedule surely.

Say you have three tuners... and all of them have all channels available... you set recording on three channels which all happen to be on the 1st multiplex. One recording is assigned to each tuner. A fourth recording using a different multiplex will fail as no tuners are available.

Using this method, there are no issues with padding or tuner availability, I have successfully recorded 24 channels at the same time with this method - it would fail very quickly if all channels were available on all tuners.

That scheme does work pretty well. The only real downside is slow channel change times in live tv between channels on different frequencies.

Sure, but for recordings that doesn't matter as the pre-padding will take care of that, and for live-TV a 3-4-5 second channel change doesn't bother me.
