I run NPVR 2.1.5 on Windows Vista using a Hauppauge HVR 900 and it WAS running quite successfully.

I experienced a problem where the drive with my temp folder on ran out of space and I could not get NPVR to restart. I deleted the contents in the temp directory to make space but it still refused to restart.

So I uninstalled using uninstall.exe and then tried to reinstall. It keeps asking if one of the components on NPVR is still running and if I reinstall it doesn't work successfully. When I try to restart NPVR it just tells me that it has encountered an error.

It appears that despite uninstalling there is a part of NPVR still running.

Can anyone help?

What OS are you running, and did you run the uninstall/install as Administrator if on Vista or W7?

I am running under Windows Vista and no I didn't run install or uninstall under Administrator, I didn't realise that it was necessary.

Should I try that now?

Yes that might be a good idea.

I installed NPVR as Administrator and tried to run.

Got Windows error message "NextPVR has stopped working".

Uninstalled as Adminstrator.

Rebooted

I inintiated the install of NPVR as Administrator and got the message "On install make sure all NPVR components are stopped before proceeding.

So nothing has changed. It appears that the uninstall leaves some process still running.

The message you are referring to is there just as a reminder, it does not mean that something is running Smile

Try running the installation as Administrator and zip and post the logs (found in C:\Users\Public\NPVR\Logs\) if it does not work.

I looked in C:\Users\Public\NPVR\Logs\ but this folder is empty.

Mmm-m, does the Windows Event Viewer say anything about what happened?

I am not very used to the Windows Event Viewer but it seems to just say "The NPVR Recording Service service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s)."

in task manager, end task on NRecord.exe, NextPVR.exe, NTray.exe

delete c:\program files\npvr
delete c:\users\public\npvr

in registry, delete hklm\software\npvr & hkcu\software\npvr

at elevated command prompt, run:
sc delete "npvr recording service"

reboot

re-install NPVR 2.1.5

edit: it may be best to turn off User Account Control, at least temporarily, until you get this sorted out.
