Is there a way to disable the built-in NPVR response to an MCE remote such that I can customize the commands via an external program like Eventghost? I see nothing pertaining to remote control configuration in the Settings or the configuration file.

No, its not possible to disable the build MCE remote support.

I'm pretty sure some of these packages like Eventghost can handle an event and not pass it on to NextPVR (in effect overriding the default behaviour).

I've been asking for this since day 1 of NPVR. With GB-PVR, setting the remote type to Hauppauge effectively disabled the MCE remote codes; no such setting is available for NPVR, which continues to cause me problems.

No, EventGhost can't intercept MCE events. It can see them and act on them, but can't stop NPVR from seeing the event as well. I use Eventghost, but have had to just get used to the default button actions.

Have you tried HIP?

Yep, if you go with HIP and its alternative driver, then the remote will basically stop working with everything by default. Then you can reconfigure it with HIP to just control the programs you want. It's a no-go with x64 Windows though.

Veresion 4 and up works great on x64 systems, I run it daily.

HIP itself works fine, but the alternative driver doesn't. That was my experience anyway.

you could use my registry trick [in my sig] to map the keys to other keys npvr doesn't listen to and then map those in eventghost..
or just use IR Server Suite...it does intercept them properly..and has all the best features..
also i believe just setting the registry remote code# should work..
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\HidIr\Remotes\745a17a0-74d3-11d0-b6fe-00a0c90f57da]
"CodeSetNum0"=dword:00000000
"CodeSetNum1"=dword:00000000
"CodeSetNum2"=dword:00000000
"CodeSetNum3"=dword:00000000
Save as something.reg and double click to run it.
but i'm not sure if eventghost will still respond to it..
they are normally 1,2,3,4 instead of all 0's
[of course backup that key before playing]

or setting the remote itself to another codeset on the keys..

"Set Remote Control ID -
1. Press and hold the DVD Menu key on the remote then press a number button (1-8) for 5 seconds. Remotes with visible
LED signal indicators will blink twice to confirm the change. "
that will change it to a different codeset that npvr won't respond to...Smile
if you set one the above registry numbers to the same number as you pushed on remote, it'll work again..
[eg..00000002 after setting remote to number 2]
Hardware: HDHR Prime, HDPVR 1212, Raspberry pi2, VFD display w/LCDSmartie
