NPVR Recording Service stopping

I have run into some problems with a few scheduled recordings not completing due to the NPVR Recording Service stopping. I can run the service for days, and view live tv. When back to back recordings are scheduled is when the service will stop. It will record one, sometimes two subsequent recordings then stop.

I also use convertvideo.bat for converting to mp4's in order to view through my Roku media box. When the service stops working the conversion also halts, leaving me with a .ts file which I have to manually convert. The first daily scheduled recording will always convert, sometimes the second one will too. Could these be related, or is the problem strictly with the Windows 7 service?

I have looked into the NRecord.log.1 file to see if anything stood out, which I have attached to this post.

This is what is contained in my PostProcessing.bat file:
call "f:\program files (x86)\roku-npvr-server\ConvertVideo.bat" %1

I too am having similar problems. I have a Hauppauge 2250 dual tuner card using the ATSC channel plan. I often find the next morning that it is "still" trying to record that last two simaltaneous recordings (it isn't really. The NPVR icon is still red) until I kill the nrecord process, then it closes the recordings. I try to record one after another also, which seem to have a problem with that also. Yes, I set the pre & post record times to zero. I used GBPVR and it did the recordings just fine though the gui didn't work so well. Now with NPVR, the gui works great but the recording doesn't work so well. I would love any help I could get.

Hey Grampz, What are you using to convert your recordings from .TS to MP4?

Any Help?

Thanks

I am using Handbrake for conversion. FFmpeg is also used to create icons for the Roku media box to see.

Last night it happened again, NCIS recorded and converted, but the following show just recorded the .ts file. This time both the service and NPVR stopped working. Attached are 2 .zip files. First is the most recent nrecord.log file. Second is the convertvideo.bat file.

Your nrecord.exe shows a problem that a few users have had, where the device refuses to stop when requested. I've never been able to reproduce the problem here, but lets have another got at trying to collect info about the problem.

Apply the attached problem, reproduce the problem, at which time the nrecord.log will end with a message saying "Graph stopping...", then bring up the task manager, select 'show processes from all users', right click on nrecord.exe, and select 'create dump file', then get me that dump file.

Thank You, "sub" "Administrator"

I applied your patch and got things up and running again. It started recording my 9pm show and ended at 9:50pm just fine as requested. I did that deliberately as a pad between the siingle recording and the following dual recording. It started the 10pm recording just fine and actually went to the appointed end time, (before it stopped about 20 minutes into the recording). The first recording seemed to end and the file closed just fine but the second recording didn't, (the file was still open.) The status screen still showed both recordings still going on, and of course the red "N" in the system tray. I right clicked on the NRecord.exe process but "dump" was grayed out and wouldn't let me choose that. I ended that process (without the dump), the status updated correctly and the white "N" showed up in the system tray.

So what did I do wrong so that I couldn't get the "dump" for you?

Thanks for helping and a waiting you next instructions.

Oh Sorry!

Thank you Grampz. I'll have to look into that as I would rather store my programs as MP4's than .ts.

As I said above, where I supplied the patch:

Apply the attached problem, reproduce the problem, at which time the nrecord.log will end with a message saying "Graph stopping...", then bring up the task manager, select 'show processes from all users', right click on nrecord.exe, and select 'create dump file', then get me that dump file.

Without the dump file, there is nothing I can do.

Thanx Sub, but this did not go as planned..

- I closed nVPR and made sure the NVPR Service was shut down..
- I replaced the files contained in patch.zip which you sent me..
- I started nVPR, and checked for live tv. Not working, fixed by starting the service via task manager.
- I scheduled 3 subsequent half hour recordings..
- All three recordings saved to disk, and first 2 converted from the batch file. After that nVPR locked up, but the recording service was still running.
- nrecord.log did not show the error message which you were expecting, but am attaching the 2 most recent logs to this post.
- Was unable to view, nor save the requested dump file.
- I then shut down the service, restarted nVPR, tried live tv. Had to manually restart the service for it to work again.
- I have 2 recordings scheduled tonight, a half hour apart. I will check between the 2 and send you information if there are any errors in between the recordings. If not, I will dig into this tomorrow!

Many thanks for your help!

I would have liked to have seen the nrecord.log at that stage. The npvr.logs are no good to me for this problem.
