I've just upgraded from GBPVR to latest NPVR with R1 patches and am enjoying the results of a lot of good work that's been put in at PVR HQ. I've upgraded now to deal with yet another channel frequency rehash at Mendip UK - the NPVR tuning arrangement has saved me several hours over GBPVR - great!

One aspect not working is playback of GBPVR mpg recordings on our win7 npvr client - I get blank screen and no sound. Playing the same file from the client by right click & load file in NPVR works fine - I've attached the whole log and two snippets below. Check out the different decoders loaded in each case?

Load from NPVR right click context menu 'load file' - works fine

VMR9 custom renderer
All codecs are the MS DTV-DVD decoders

I've experimented with alternative renderers and codecs - ffdshow and nvidia platinum trial - but the symptoms are unchanged.

mpeg recording playback works fine on the server (XP)

Thanks for any help!

In config.xml, try setting <ForceMpgGraph>false</ForceMpgGraph>
I seem to remember having to do that to get MPG files to play.

The client/server support only works for streaming file types that NextPVR records, ie .TS files. I'd pretty much need to develop new directshow components for each file type I'd want to be able stream across the network, which is a lot of work, so I only bothered doing that for file types that NextPVR creates.

While it cant stream other file formats, but you can watch them from the Video Library screen on the client (ie, from a network share).

THanks for the quick reply.

Sounds like a large transcode session coming up then!

Before transcoding. I suspect you just need to install an mpeg splitter like they Haali spliter on you Win7 box. If you upload a 20 MB sample to megaupload I can tell you if it plays for me.

Sub, for my information, are you saying those users that transcode recordings in PostProcessing and then delete the original .ts file lose the ability to playback from the Recordings screen on the client and host or just on the client?

Correct. Clients only support streaming of transport streams, whether live or previously recorded. GBPVR was much the same, but only supported .mpg streaming. For most people this isnt a big deal, since very few people try converting recordings to different types.

There is no single bit of magic that can support streaming every file type. The reality is that special directshow filters need to be developed for each type, and they need to do different things depending on the other directshow filters they'll eventually feed.

I've said a few times in the past that this was one of the reasons I dont want to add any built-in transcoding functionality.

Yes, because it's still a transport stream.

Hi Martin

Quite possibly there's nowhere further for this thread to go now but I've uploaded a small mpg to megaupload in case you wanted to try out your splitter idea above.

Elegance and Decadence The Age of the Regency_20110913_21002200-2.mpg (12.79 MB)
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=A9T6C8RB

edit:
that's a duff mpg above - guess it was only 13Mbytes for a reason. I've uploaded a 10Mbyte chunck cut from a 1.8Gbyte mpg cut out with avconv -fs
zsmall.mpg (9.56 MB)
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ZKKQZIV0

Please try this one instead. Thanks
