Hi, I haven't looked at the actual plugin framework for a while, and just scoping out some of the groundwork I need. But can IMenuTask( I think?) .PlayVideoFile call a file from a URL or must it be a UNC path?

This may or may not mean that I'm back on the tools.... Big Grin

Actually it might be a moot point as I don't see that information - ignore me.

Plugins play video files by calling "PluginHelperFactory.GetPluginHelper().PlayVideoFile(c:\some\mediafile.ext)". The same call can be made with a url, but whether it'll play will depend on the type of streaming technology used for that url, and the directshow filters that are available on your machine. Martin's Universe plugin does exactly this, and manages to successfully play video streams from a URL.

If you want to check if your url will play, you can fire up GraphEdit and select 'render url' from the menu and see if it makes a playable graph. Behind the scene NextPVR does the same thing.

What will an nmt do with "PluginHelperFactory.GetPluginHelper().PlayVideoFile("\\server\share\videofile.avi)"

Will it play it as well? It's a long time since I played with my Recordings2 plugin which obviously had a lot of this code in it.

A unc path like that, to an avi file, should play fine on an nmt. It does depend on the recording service account on the user's server PC being able to access that path.

ok. Did you have any basic samples any more?

Looking at something with a fairly big list on the right - and buttons on left. I guess looking like your video library.

I'm trying to put something together pretty quickly to see if it's feasible.

There is some samples here: http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...post371198

I dont use buttons on the left anymore, but there is a sample that does that. Now I have a list that fills pretty much the whole screen, and a small auto-hiding menu at the time. There is a sample that shows that too.

Ok, will toodle. Now that I'm sitting here, I can't even remember what the video library looks like - weird.

I think I might be able to handle it all with one list. So I'll try the new style.
