Hello,
Haven't been tinkering with GB since 09 so I'm at a bit out of the loop. Currently I'm trying to figure out if the Shuttle XS35 line (or similiar if folks have suggestions) is adequate for a all-in one setup to be used with a Directv unit. Nothing in the current lineup is in HD (and probably won't be for a while). I do have a sight on some Haup 950 USB units for tuners.
I did see a post a while back about someone selling a Shuttle unit but didn't see much else mentioned here. These units are so small and the reviews in general seem to reflect a great machine.

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you

I had one but ended up replacing it as the xs35 graphics stuttered on HD playback. I would assume the XS35Gt would be more future proof. I did like the form factor and no noise factor.

Thanks for the info. So I'm assuming you didn't have any issue getting everything up and running on it then?

No - I dropped in a stick of old laptop memory a small SSD and win 7 and everything was good. I should mention I did not record directly on it since there is definitely no room for a colossus :0)

This sounds like a good unit to go with, but even though it sounds like you didn't put it through all the paces, with a decent SSD drive do you think this could be adequate for SD or maybe on HD recording session?
Personally I had GB running on a very beastly workstation with a separate front end client, but this unit will actually be setup for my folks. I thought the general layout of GBPVR was nice and friendly enough, so I'm guessing the NPVR will be even better and easy enough for them to use. They are mostly interested in recording some of the news shows (Daily show/Colbert Report) and a few other interesting things the networks have pushed into odd time slots.
What do you think?

It depends on your recording solution - if you are doing OTA digital in north america then it is really only a data transfer (regardless of SD or HD) so I suspect you would be fine.

If your solution requires encoding via the CPU then your mileage may vary, but most recording solutions for NPVR are going to use hardware encoding in the recording unit (EG HDPVR)

I would not recommend SSD for significant recording load due to its finite read/write cycles.
