hi:
started using npvr and have some problems with live tv picture which i believe are deinterlacing problems. my m/b is asus m4a785 with hd4200 onboard video. im using ati vivo codecs. this will correct itself if i toggle from auto to fill, but fill does stretch a little. this is being test on a computer monitor, but will eventually be run on an hdtv. im wondering if the hdtv will deinterlace correctly. it does not do it on every channel. i have tried ffdshow and that does not cause this problem, but the ati decoder only uses about 20% cpu whereas the ffdshow runs in the 80% range. any ideas?

thanks
jim d

This is a VMR bug related to hardware acceleration. Try switching the renderer to 'VMR9 Custom' or 'EVR', or turn of hardware acceleration in the decoder.

had to do both of your suggestions to make it work, the downside was the cpu went up to 80% usage.

If you'r running XP I'd strongly recommend update to W7.

When you say you had to do both of my suggestions, did you do EVR or VMR9 Custom? You shouldnt need to turn off hardware acceleration if you're using VMR9 Custom.

The reality is that I cant really do anything about it. Its a Microsoft bug, and affects other apps too.

Try to use PDVD 11 decoder from *unlocked* SAF, you should be OK.
Working just fine on XP (VMR9 custom) with enabled HW acceleration over DXVA.

sorry i neglected this thread, as i thought it was finished. i had to turn off hardware accelerater and then i think i could use either render. i am using xp sp3. also the tuner card is 1250 haupaugge. interesting thing happened when i put npvr on my other machine that is hooked to my hdtv. it has an instant hdtv tuner card from ads. im using the same ati codecs and there is no distortion of video with acceration on. apparently the card makes a difference. cpu usage is under 20%.

If you mean the tuner card makes a difference for this, it couldn't possibly. for digital, the tuner card is just a dumb device that brings the raw digital stream from the broadcaster in to the computer, and has no effect on the stream itself or what happens when it's played back. something else is different about your two machines.

Well I'll have to look closer at my settings, but my initial thought was that the card did make a difference. unless the 1250 card is bad as i bought it on ebay.

your 1250 is fine. if there was anything wrong with it, you'd have different and bigger problems. the symptom you posted about is well known and documented, affects everyone (it's the very reason for the existence of the VMR9 Custom render mode) and definitely has nothing to do with the tuner card.
