Hi everyone!

Ive just bought a kworld DVB-T USB tuner from Maplin. Installed everything and all went fine, but the bundled software is awfull, so I downloaded nPVR to use instead.

Installed nPVR, but when I go to settings, the first thing I noticed was it said that "DirectX is not available on this machine". The device is indeed running DirectX 9.0c.

The second problem is that when I scan for channels, none are found. The Tuner is detected by nPVR, and I have set the location correctly, but it finds nothing. The software that was bundled with the tuner, however, finds all the channels, so its not a signal strength issue.

If anyone can help me sort this out i would very much appreciate it, as i am getting more than a little frustrated with this project!

Many thanks,

Rob

We need logs!

See the thread linked in my signature, post #2.

On the DirectX problem, you need to install the runtime update. The full installer is also linked in the same post.

Also try scanning 'all countries / all regions' in case the tuning file for you location is out of date and now using different frequencies.

Hi guys,

Thanks for replying so fast.

Literally in the few seconds since i posted, and after several hours of trying, i went back into settings and noticed the directx warning had disappeared. So i tried a re-scan using the exact same settings as before, and all of a sudden it works!

Computers eh..........

One wouldn't have had anything to do with the other, but I'm glad you have it working.

like my Dad always says: "Computers are no damned good and they're not here to stay!"

yes, he worked with computers his entire career in the defense industry, in varying roles from programming to system administrator. He's starting to think they might be here to stay, but I'm still holding out hope! My house has far more computers than people now, and I'm just worried they're going to gang up on us.

ha, well, i might have spoken too soon!

Updated the EPG, and all was looking good. Went to watch live tv and immediately got a message saying the buffer folder didn't exist. Went into settings and created one (although not neccessarily the right one- i don't know if it needs a specific name or filepath), and tried again. Then got an unhandled exception that would not go away. Couldn't force close or anything. Had to power down and reboot.

So, after reboot tried to record from the EPG. That seemed to work fine, so after a few minutes i went to play the recording (directly from the EPG in timeshift) and got unhandled exception again. Again couldn't force a close and had to power down.

I've given up with it for now, but any suggestions would be great.

I did read through your sticky, but couldn't see anything that fit my problems. Maybe i'm just tired and not reading it properly- its been a long day!

What did the exception say?

Reproduce the problem, and zip and attach the npvr.log/nrecord.log files and I'll take a look.

will do.

It might end up being tomorrow though, I've been messing with this project all day and I can barely see straight now!

I'm going to make sure I've got all the patches installed as well, in case that's anything to do with it.

I'll let you know!

After having a break (I know what fuddled brain is like) it may help you to have a look at the wiki (there's a link near the top of the forum) it has more in depth instruction on configuring etc. that you might find helpful.
