doesn't seem to be a bad card since it works ok with the bundled software (arcsoft total media). although that program is pretty crappy. couldn't get windows media center to find it either. logs attached.

What does the 'type' show as in the Settings->Devices screen? QAM or DVB-C?

there is:

ATSC: ATI BDA Digital Tuner (#2)
QAM: ATI BDA Digital Tuner (#2)
DVB-T: ATI DVBT Digital Tuner
QAM: ATI CQAM Digital Tuner
IPTV: IPTV Device
(... and then listings for two other tuner cards i have)

i tried both of the QAM ones, and they both have the "failed to start" message.

To be honest, I'm not really sure what to suggest.

The logs show the device failing to hook up to the Microsoft Network Provider, which is the components used for doing tuning.

i took out my second ati card and now the first one is working correctly in npvr. i wonder if it could be getting confused because the graph filters have the same names?

it's certainly happened before exactly as you say. I believe there's something called the "pin medium" that sorts out all the different filter names, connections, etc., and in some cases, particularly multiples of the same card, it doesn't all come together the way it should. It's way over my head, so my explanation is probably only sort of right at best....

I think sub has needed to patch the code in the past to correct issues like this.

(oh, now I see sub is on and looking at this thread... he's probably chuckling at my feeble attempt to explain that)

I remember having trouble running two ATI-550 cards in the same computer, it was a driver issue, the driver was never meant to handle more than one card at a time. Maybe it is the same here?

ATI dont have a good track record when it comes to creating drivers that are fully compliant with Microsoft's spec. Particularly with pin mediums, which makes it hard to tell which components go with which other components.

You might need to find filtercheck.exe, run it, and post the log file it creates.
