recording formula 1 qualifying 06:00-08:30.
Discovered recording was only 1hr long (luckily they repeated it at 13:00)
07:00am is when my EPG update kicks off so I suspect that it is somehow responsible for the termination of the recording.

This looked a bit suspicious 2012-04-14 07:02:07.940 [DEBUG][4] Frequency has changed, so stopping recording from previous frequency. (Handle 6)

log attached

Any ideas?

It does look a bit suspicious doesn't it? Comparing both logs it's only a matter of milliseconds between the log entry showing the start of checking for DVB/ATSC data and the 'stopping recording' entry.

I'm pretty sure that EPG update used to kill my in progress recordings. But I never did the detail work to prove it. I just moved the time of the EPG update and the problem went away.

yes, npvr ought to be smart enough to check whether the tuner is in use before grabbing it for an EPG update. you have two, so it could have done the EPG update on the other tuner. it's obvious the EPG update process is just being dumb about it, since it doesn't even properly end the in-progress recording, it just takes over the tuner without so much as a 'pardon me'.

there have always been various problems with having recordings in-progress around EPG update time, so the usual recommendation has been to set it when you're really unlikely to have any recordings going on.

That is one reason why I don't use DVB-EPG updating anymore, I use DVBGuide to rip the epg to an xmltv file, DVBGuide is smart enough to check if the tuner is in use, and if it is tha batch waits for a minute and checks again until the tuner is free.

cheers guys. Hopefully Sub can take a look when he has a moment.
I actually use Birtles XMLTV grabber but it does an DVB-EPG update for a couple of radio channels that I do not get from the XML download.
I either need to delete these channels (I don't really use them) or move the EPG update to an even more uncivilised hour such as 4am.
It is these early start F1 races that have tripped it up. I would normally never be recording anything at 7am.

fwiw i run mine at 4am: there just isn't anything recording then, ever. that said, I do believe if you don't have any channels getting EPG from the tuner that all other EPG update with recordings in progress bugs have been fixed.

I had the same issue this morning - the Suzuka F1-race recording was interrupted during EPG update . The file stamp is 07:02. The log file seems to give some hints as to what happened (I think).

All my TV channels are updated from an XML-file, but the radio channels are still set to DVB/ATSC EPG.

Log is attached here for reference.

Yep, it's a known problem that can happen. I've got it on my list of things to fix. For now you just have to be careful not to do recordings that overlap your EPG update time.
