All,

I have just recently built a new box with very modern specs and nPVR works great for both recording Analog and QAM digital TV. I decided to take my old HTPC box that is running Windows XP, SP3 and upgrade it to the newest version of NextPVR (it had previously been running GBPVR). This older machine is running a Pentium Dual Core E4500 at 2.2 GHz, 2GB of memory and an ATI Radeon AGP X1300 Video Card, with a Hauppauge HVR1600 and 2 PVR-150's. Due to a combination of Windows XP, old hardware limitations and the graphics card, I was only able to get Digital Recordings to record and play back smoothly using VMR9 FSE with the Hauppauge supplied MainConcept decoder. If I try any other Video Playback mode the CPU utilization shoots up to 50 - 80% for one recording or playback, which causes horribly choppy digital playback. In VMR9 FSE, CPU utilization stays under 10%. My problem is that I can't get the On-Screen-Display to display at all while in VMR9 FSE mode. Sub, or anyone, is there anyway to get the OSD to display in VMR9 FSE when using NextPVR? I know that this video renderer mode worked great and displayed the OSD perfectly fine on this box when I was running GBPVR. Thanks.

I'm not sure what to suggest for that one. The OSD works fine here when I'm using VMR9 FSE.

Does temporarily running your desktop at a low resolution make any difference?

make sure to get latest video driver for that card and make sure to install the pre-requisites..[DirectX update and vc update]
and does that card have at least 256 megs memory?

Ok, after playing around with the screen resolution and some additional experimentation, it appears that OSD is painting itself outside the video image that is being displayed on my TV (Samsung 37" LCD running at 1920 x 1080). I can see just the top edge of the graphic for the current TV show poking up from the bottom of the screen when I hit pause, FF, or Skip back. The rest of the OSD must be painting itself below the displayable area of my TV screen. I have reinstalled all of the pre-requisites and verified that I have the most current Video drivers for my graphics card. It must have something to do with my graphics card and the whole VMR9 FSE. The OSD paints itself just fine with plain VMR9, but I get a bit higher CPU utilization in VMR9 and just a tad bit too much choppiness for digital playback. Sub or anyone else, any other ideas? Has anyone else seen this before? Thanks.

Do you have a monitor and a TV attached to the video card?

No, just an LCD TV, attached to the VGA port of the video card.

then you need to check the overscan/picture size/zoom settings in both your video card driver and the tv itself. this issue has nothing to do with NPVR.

yep, ati cards have overscan enabled by default...look on 'scaling options' tab and crank it all the way up...
[have to do this on all ati cards]

Ok, I tried messing with the Overscan settings on the Catalyst Control Center setttings and still no luck. The OSD always displays below/outside the frame the the actual video image that is playing. I even swapped out the TV for an old style 4:3 flat panel monitor. Still the same problem, so it's definitely something to do with the drivers for my old ATI Radeon X1300 graphics card.

Just a quick follow-up to my original postings for this thread. Thanks to stustunz advice on this other posting: http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...t=Move+OSD, I was able to change all of the percentage settings in the file skin/default/players/video.xml to move the OSD where it is now visible in all video modes. Also changed the default position for the Volume plugin so that it is also visible. Thanks stustunz!
