I use one of these, a harmony 525. I's pretending it's an MCE remote and hooked up to a USB-UIRT receiver- talking to HIP
They're handy as you can create all sorts of extra buttons, like i have special ones for the HDMI and a few other things.

I prefer Philips remotes the buttons are nicer and I like the button layout more
I use the Hauppauge receiver and a mixture of hip and irserversuite The Hauppauge remote(comes in kit with receiver) isn't to bad either similar to the old mce remote which in my opinion is still the best remote ever made for basic use with tv/ pc based media playback

Philips Srp5004/86 there are others also
Hip and ir server suite are intermediary programs that receive the command from the remote then control whatever you choose ( mainly just used for the few extra custom things ie start nextpvr)as most buttons on remote just work anyway

Remember if you get a Harmony Remote (excellent as they are) you still need an infra-red receiver at the PC end too. You can't go wrong with one of the MCE ones.

I use a Harmony 625 remote with an MCE receiver from ebay (search for seller dacheng for a remote and receiver for $15 shipped). I find the Harmony web based configuration software annoying, but it does work. You can configure the remote as an MCE remote and as an MCE keyboard simultaneously, so that the MENU key can be mapped to F9 and the aspect ratio key F7 can be mapped to a button. No additional software needed. I've never gotten the hang of irserver suite or LM remote keymap, but many others have. The capabilities of the Harmony software do everything I need.
