sub,

While watching live tv, occasionally the screen blanks and "Encrypted Content" appears in the corner of the screen; I need to exit and resume live tv, or change channels, to get playback going again. I know there was a problem like this reported here: http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...ed-Content, and it was fixed with a patch that assumed HDPVR/Colossus devices could never produce encrypted content.

I'm encountering this on ATSC and now QAM content that isn't encrypted. I know this is due to a slightly garbled data packet in the transport stream that just happens to be garbled in a way that appears encrypted to NPVR.

Can you add a config.xml setting to 2.5 to simply disable NPVR's detection of encrypted content other than during channel scans? That would eliminate this issue entirely.

Thanks.

Yes, I can probably add an option to disable this entirely. It can be useful even for QAM though, where you broadcaster could decide to encrypt a channel. Without this logic it wouldn't be able to tell you the channel is encrypted.

If you happen to be at the PC when it happens, try to capture the live tv buffer file so I can take a closer look.

I suspect it was just a momentary glitch in the reception, which resulted in a packet with the encryption indicator set. I might be able to add some logic that needs a threshold of x number of encrypted packets before it'll let the user know.

As one of the biggest original "whiners" about this, I haven't seen it since sub addressed the HD PVR patch. On the other hand I cannot even force it when I try to play a truly encrypted QAM broadcasts maybe our DC II video isn't marked the same way and so I would enable this option "just in case" since it was so annoying when it happened.

I often see this watching live Freeview DVB-T broadcasts in New Zealand, pause and resume almost always clears it. For me it's only a very minor irritation becasue I don't watch that much live TV, but any workaround that ignored indications of "Encrypted Content" would be welcome.

I get this too occasionally, but only ever if I have paused live tv - If I haven't paused, it wont happen. I too can resolve the issue by pausing & playing again. I'm on NZ Freeview via DVB-S, in case it matters. Not really a show-stopper problem for me, but thought I'd add my 2c.

Just a note that I still occasionally see the "Encrypted Content" message when watching live Freeview DVB-T broadcasts in New Zealand on version 2.5.5 with the R1 patches applied. It's nothing more than a very minor irritation for me becasue I don't watch that much live TV, and a pause and resume clears it. But I thought that it was worth noting.

Was there ever an option added to the config.xml file to disable encrypted content detection? This problem still bites me regularly.

No, I never did add this setting. If you happen to be at the PC when it happens, try to capture the live tv buffer file so I can take a closer look at why it happens.

I'm pretty sure something was done about this, as I haven't had this problem even once since installing 2.5.5. The release notes mention something about a change in the encrypted content logic.

I'm guessing sub did this:

Perhaps the threshold could be increased, or maybe make it tunable in config.xml?

I still get the problem if I watch live Freeview TV in New Zealand, I'm running NPVR 2.5.9 with the R2 patches applied.
