Indoor aerials for UK Freeview

We're moving in a couple of weeks time to a flat which only has a sat dish and cable services. Hopefully we can transfer our existing cable contract (which will be useful) but my npvr box only has DVB-T cards (4x Nova-T 90002 via a distribution amp) so I'm wondering about rigging an indoor aerial.

The nearest TV transmitter is only 1.5km away and research suggests we'll have good line-of-sight so I'm hoping reception will be good.

If anybody with experience of indoor aerials, PC cards and npvr has any advice I'd be very grateful.

Wait and see would be my only suggestion! It seems close, but there can be other buildings in the way or multipath routes.
At least most transmitters have been bumped up to full power by now.
No way can we use anything other than a full sized Yagi outside to get a signal from our distant transmitter

Well inevitably that is going to be the case I suppose. Until we get there I won't know for definite - just wondering if anyone is successfully using an indoor aerial with a DVB-T / PC setup and if there are any particularly good makes/models to use.

According to ukfree.tv the property we're moving to is at 62m above sea-level and the Idle transmitter (West Yorkshire) is at 260m so fingers-crossed there shouldn't be too much in between us and the transmitter.

Just getting fidgety I suppose, it would be nice to get npvr up and running ASAP after we move in and as the flat is rented I can't bolt an external aerial on the side of it without a whole lot of negotiation with the landlord.

I recall a regular commute from near Hull, via Leeds to Skipton and it is certainly a bit hilly in the Idle area - hopefully, you are on a hill rather than in one of the valleys.

Just to confirm that I use npvr with an internal aerial. As it happens, I now have a 'stick on the window' aerial which works well but also use a ring aerial elsewhere in the house. My main tv's are on a loft aerial which I bought cheap at a local diy store.

My transmitter is Bromsgrove which is a mile or so away but low power.

Thanks all - just as a follow up...

I finally got around to getting an indoor aerial. Asda "own brand" for a tenner. Built-in variable amplifier with loop aerial for TV and extendible radio aerials for FM and DAB reception (not that I need them but not bad for the price). It works a treat.

Thanks - the move was as traumatic as expected but we made it relatively unscathed.

Yes, plenty of hills but we are part way up the side of one and on a clear day I can see the Idle transmitter from the end of the road.
